Morning all, a little later than usual today, had a lay in and a busy morning, anything after 530 is a lay in for me! I had that awful moment today where I put up 2 horses on twitter and by the time I sat down to put my bets on the prices had shortened. I'm still on board. I'm not sure we've had too many clues for the opening classics, it was evident over the week that the earlier 2 year olds from last year are still a bit ahead of their later counterparts. The ground at Newmarket, as well as it holds up, was a little softer than good and will no doubt be much better in 2 weeks time. Roger Varian sends an interesting one into the handicap, 240 Newbury, ALJAMAHEER, this one won his Yarmouth maiden pretty comfortably and the form from that race hasn't been shown up as too shabby. He currently sits at 20/1 for the 2000, and that could look good value if he wins as I expect him to today. We'll see.
TREBLE
GALWAY JACK 1710 SOUTHWELL NAP
A very interesting one switching to Beginners chase from Hunters, he was unfortunate to run into the machine Rumbury Grey last twice, but was well away from anything else on the first occasion and a 3 way go latest has seen both other rivals go out and win since. Price is pretty unthinkable at the moment but the tissue has it the other way around with the Vaughan horse so may drift a little towards the off. Any softening should suit this one further over his rival and would be a decent 50% bonus if doubled up with other fancies.
LADY ROSAMUNDE 1700 BATH NB
Less exposed than some in race and for the most part has been very consistent, trip sure to suit having won a lesser event over the distance. Cheekpieces applied for the first time and break not likely to hinder as she has run her race on all occasions.
PANJO BERE 1645 FONTWELL
Gary Moore was happy with the handicappers assesment of him at the turn of the year, since then unfortunately he hasn't run his race and the rating has dropped further accordingly. He is dropped in class here, in fact the lowest class of race for him since a course win in 2008, incidently one of two succesful runs on this track from only two visits. He is a decent price for an each way bet and doesn't need to be at his all time best to win this, if he was he'd probably lap a few of them.
