Monday 1st August - A Pinch and a Punch

Due to my duties over the weekend we saw the last blog of the month on Saturday. And wow, what a way to finish. We finally landed the treble. At SP odds of 74/1. That secured that we finished the month with a tremendous profit. I did suggest a change of policy regards the tipping, but my latest system tweak seems to have paid off, 2 x NAPs landed in 3 days + a treble. Therefore, everything will stay as is. 5pts NAP, 3pts NB, 2pts T, 1pt E/w treble and 1pt all other selections. You all know it by now. I think we had a respectful Goodwood week. We bagged a winner every day, weds and fri saw 2 winners each. Plus I gave you all the 20/1 winner in the feature event of the Galway festival. Happy days. Lets have a little look at todays bets.

If anyone hasn't heard of her yet, keep an eye on a jockey by the name of Julie Burke. She is in absolutely terrific form at the moment and should be pushing for one or two winners tonight.

Have a good day, good luck and happy punting.

Saturday 30th July - Glorious Goodwood day 5

Before I start, this will be the last blog of the month, I am at a wedding all day today and therefore will not be selecting horses in the morning. I have had to exercise some common sense in place of the system with the two big field efforts given the evident draw bias yesterday. Lots to do this morning so I can't ramble on. Have to get the kids ready for their overnight at Nana's. It will be just selections today. I shall make aware of my system bets in the races where i have looked for one low drawn also. And if you look back to wednesday nights golf blog, then check the halfway standings of the greenbrier classic, you might kick yourself if you haven't had a bet.

Friday 29th July - Glorious Goodwood Day 4 - Over 30pts profit yesterday.

Praise the Lord, Yesterday was my first profitable day sinde the 17th July. That put a smile on my face, the best bit was that it wasn't a little profit, it was nearly 35pts. I don't have time to go in too much today. The boy let me have a lay-in. He obviously forgot that Glorious Goodwood is on, and daddy needs to get up and write his blog. Don't despair though. I'm on a 12 hour jobber at work today so expect me to be very active on Twitter.

GOODWOOD
200 REDWOOD
2nd in a Group 2 at Newmarket last time out, mild step down in class and this looks prime for the taking. Won this race last year.

235 NEEBRAS
Mahmood Al Zaroooni is in terrific form at the moment, and no reason why this shouldn't continue that. He found a few too sharp in a group 1 over in France last time, reopposes listed victor Tazahum but on better terms so gets the nod. WINNER 4/1

310 PINTURA / DANCE AND DANCE / CAI SHEN
Combi forecast time. This race is a pinsticker if you ask me. Anything can win. Pintura and Dance and Dance were very close when i subjected them to my system. Cai Shen is just a horse that I really like watching. He has a tremendous turn of foot in the closing stages, he just hasn't been able to quite time it right of late.

345 SAIGON
The Hannon pair are obvious choices in this, but the selection is unbeaten and Kirsty seems to thoroughly enjoy riding him. Very impressive winner of his maiden at Yarmouth, then at Newbury he didn't start the best but Kirsty was patient, she had to carry him right across the track to get a run and despite the leader hanging and pushing him off a true line he still got up to win. He will now have the benefit of another racecourse run for experience and this horse gives the impression he can go all the way.

420 GOLDONI
Still a maiden, but came very close to cracking it last time at Epsom. Should be well treated now in Nursery on bare form figures and could provide an upset here. His Sire was a favourite of mine so I have to have a litle wager on the boy. WINNER 11/2

450 DAWN ECLIPSE
I was struggling here, there are lots that could win this. If I was convinced that a little stalls test at Salisbury has done the magic trick, then I'd jump all over Memory at 9/1. Rimth is another that looks overpriced at 14s. Irish raider Dawn Eclipse has come across some very good horses in Ireland and should be much better than form figures suggest. Well worth an Each way bet. I'm going to do Memory and Rimth as well + CFC

525 JAMESWAY
Slowly dropping down in class and weight to find a win. Looks  good horse, just coming up against better ones from time to time. If you can get a double figure price then more than worth an each way shot, but any market support should suggest going in on the nose.

BANGOR
320 CHRISTOPHERS QUEST (Each way, only if remains 8 runners on off)

BATH
535 SARANGOO (NB)

MUSSELBURGH
600 TOSHI (TREB)
740 AL SHAQAB
815 AL MUHEER WINNER 4/1

THIRSK
405 SANGAR (NAP)
440 ARGANIL
515 PICCOLO EXPRESS

And of course I'm going to have a cheeky £ on Trending in the 505 at Bath.

Have a great day, good luck and happy punting.

Thursday 28th July - Glorious Goodwood Day 3

Yesterday was a better day at the feature meeting, but it was those around it that let us down. I haven't had a winning day for a little while now, and I can't say I'm too happy about it. I've tweaked my system a touch in a bid to make the NAP/NB's a little more consistent. Do I need to wax on about Frankel? Not really, I didn't back him and truth be told, I'd have preferred Canford to have won, but there is no taking away from the brilliance of Frankel. You all saw for yourselves the turn of foot that he possesses. I'll be honest, I had no idea that was there, he's been raced differently prior. Canford was already being brushed along long before Tom Quealley let Frankel go and win, in truth it was never a contest, which is disappointing, but we did get to see truly how great Frankel is, and any possible improvement is a scary prospect.

GOODWOOD
215 BELGIAN BILL
All eyes will be on Royal Ascot winner Sagramor and July festival winner Fulgur, but I'm looking at left field. Belgian Bill has not done much wrong and is well overpriced. He finished 4th to Sagramor in the Brittania, but this is where form reading is fun. That day the ground was softer than he would have liked, (he has never won with cut, but 2 wins and a 2nd on Good to Firm). He was beaten three quarters of a length conceding 4lb, today he only concedes 1. He was staying with a virtue that day and this trip is furhter. So there you have it, we have a Royal Ascot wqinner beat. He was disappointing last run, but on evidence it looks as though the longer trip is what he needs. Frankie on board is a positive. 8th, just not good enough today

245 MASAMAH (NAP)
Versatile on any ground but would prefer it quicker, given his incredible speed. I always have a look at the Dr Koukash horses as they so often pop up at winning posts up and down the country. This one is in the form of his life at present, and having beaten over a third of his rivals last time out at York in a listed event he will be full of confidence. Jamie Spencer takes the ride, Jamie is in great form at the moment and hopefully it will be a NAP landed for me. WINNER 4/1 made all.

315 TASTAHIL
Decent runner up to Overturn in the Chester Cup but something went amiss in the Ascot gold cup last time when he pulled up. He is a classy horse at this type of distance and should be there or thereabouts at the finish. 14th beat only one home, eased down quickly when beaten

345 POLLYS MARK
Richard Hughes has form of 1222241 on this horse, including a second in this race last year. She finished a little way behind the winner in the Lancashire Oaks last time out, but this is a slightly weaker race, and over, in my opinion, a more suitable trip. Well worth place claims at a double figure price. 4th, always handy, weakened final furlong.

420 SANTARINI
The past 2 days, none of the previously run maidens have caught my eye, so I've gone for unraced types. Therefore today I didn't even look at those with racecourse experience. On pedigree this is by far the best of the unraced sorts today. If not the clear best in the race. Richard Hannon is peerless when it comes to sending 2yo's to this meeting and should be a decent winner. Another newbie I like for a little EachWay money is WASPY. Neither came close

455 DIMENSION
There will be obvious support for The Tichbourne after his 100/1 third at Royal Ascot, and I'd expect Jack Mitchell will want to try to make all on him again. But, I think that was a bit of a fluke that day. An enterprising ride by the jockey making the most of conditions. The selection comfortably beat him at Newmarket a month prior and should be comfortable again today, coming late from off the pace. 2nd

525 MIKA MICA
The formline has taken a hit, but he has been racing in better races than this. Looks to be the stable second string on jockey bookings but that only serves to get you a better price. This is a good animal more than capable of winning this, but his consistency, before the last 2, points to a very big place chance at a very big price. If you fancy backing Reflect get on early as the price will go down. Julie Wood has seen her colours carried home both days so far and that will make for a few bets. I don't think it will win, maybe a back to lay though. 6th

EPSOM
710 PRINCE SIEGFRIED WINNER 10/11
740 SALIENT (NB) non runner

FFOS LAS
755 PARHELION last one home

GALWAY
300  CASELA PARK (TREB) 2nd 10/1, never troubled winner
335 ACT OF LOVE Always at the rear, not quickened

This weekends golf - The Greenbrier Classic and The Irish Open

As stated each week, I know very little about golf. I don't even watch it. I stick pgatour.com and europeantour.com up throughout the rounds to se how I am doing. I look at each tounament statistically. I have often had decent priced places but this week lightning struck. Alex Noren destroyed the field at the Nordic masters, and landed me my first ever golf winner at odds of 25/1. This weekends selections are as follows.

IRISH OPEN
Shane Lowry 40/1
Richard Finch 55/1
Romain Wattel 70/1
Lorenzo Gagli 80/1
Jose Manuel Lara 125/1

GREENBRIER CLASSIC
Webb Simpson 22/1
Brandt Snedeker 33/1 (doubtful, only handful of prices available)
Spencer Levin 35/1
Andres Romero 40/1
Brendan De Jonge 45/1

Prices quoted are best available at time of writing, form mainstream bookmakers.

Wednesday 27th July - Glorious Goodwood Day 2, the duel on the downs.

Unfortunately owner/trainer connections of all but 2 horses took the billing of the sussex stakes far too literaly. I'm a little unsure as to why. Yes 1st and 2nd place look to be set out, but, at an original suplement fee of around £3500 whichever horse comes last today will recieve prize money of around £16000. My numbers might be a little off, I'm still quite inexperienced in this game but learning fast, but the ballpark is right and it looks a no brainer to me. The other problem here of course is that with so many people swerving the race, there is less money going in, and the prize money has to come from somewhere. Obviously this will take money from the smaller races, and we will get moans that there is no prize money anymore. It's a vicious circle, you rob Peter to pay Paul, Peter moans, but if he had just supported Paul in the first place, the Paul would have the resources to pay Peter back as necessary. I've updated my blog from yesterday, we were a nose away from making a big profit, instead we made a loss!!!! So the school report says, must do better. That's the story for the last 10 days really.

GOODWOOD
200 HEROSTATUS (NB)
In a very competitive looking race it should pay to side with an outsider. And with 19 runners you will get 4 places for E/w money. This one has rapidly been dropping down the weights and is now back to his early career mark, 6lb below last winning mark. Connections seem to be convinced that he is a stayer although he has not shown too much. The booking of a more experienced jockey looks a positive, even if it is Richard Hills. Well worth an E/w bet in a tough race to call. Never in the race

235 CHANDLERY
This looks to be between the top two in the market. Red Duke beat Chandlery a neck last time out at Newmarket but this time has a 3lb negetive in the weight. The second pointer was that Chandlery kept on when passed last time showing that perhaps he idles out front a little and Richard Hughes is the jockey to note that. An added danger will be Lethal force, 4th in the Coventry but he has failed to get home all 3 starts and could do the selection a favour by being the first to commit for the line. WINNER 5/2 ALBEIT UNDER QUESTIONABLE TACTICS.

310 CANFORD CLIFFS
I think the small field suits Frankel, The weights suit Frankel, on trainers Frankel, jockeys Canford, experience Canford, value for money Canford.
Theres not a lot of point looking at the other two. I can't call how the race is going to be run, I'd expect Quealley to just loosen the reigns and let Frankel go when he wants, that seems to work, as controversial as it looks at times. He cannot hold him up, especially not in a small field like this. If Canford is within a couple lengths at the business end, then he will will as his shorter stride makes for quicker acceleration. Frankel's camp have to hope that Canford gets carried away and follows the bull, and they can run the legs out of him. I'm having a tiny bet on Canford for value as I'd put them Even money the pair and wish punters luck. But above all I'm looking forward to seeing the two best milers in the world go head to head. 2nd. Destroyed by a monster.

345 HALIFAX
If this was a Group/listed race then I'd be on Chester Vase 4th Sadlers Risk all day long. But he has a ton to carry compared to the rest. 2m looked to be too far for him when 5th in the Queens vase at Ascot but has won both starts at this trip and more than capable of picking up a 12f hatrick. Very poor indeed, never got a run.

420 RAKASA
Much like the maiden yesterday, I can't find much appealing about those with racecourse experience. I'm going to hedge in with Rakasa, Mahmood Al Zarooni's newcomer. There is a French Guineas winner in the blood line, the stable are in pretty good form at the moment, and given the events of last Saturday, they will be fired up to bring in success. WINNER 11/2 looked green at the start went broke slowly and edged right. Got the hang of it and got up on the line.

455 DECENT FELLA or LUTINE BELL or SMARTY SOCKS
I couldn't split the three here. I've done 1pt singles and a quarter point combi forecast. Decent Fella was a little disappointing last time when 8th over a mile but back down to this trip should suit. Decent form this year at the distance with a 4th at Royal Ascot and a win at HQ over Red Gulch, who won here yesterday. Lutine Bell was 3/4 length down on Noble Citizen last time out when staying on over 6. The winner went on to land third in a much more competitive Heritage Handicap next time. This race looks winable on that form and evidence suggests that the step up to 7 may well suit. Smarty socks was in behind Decent fella at R.Ascot but is 3lb better off on renewal. The soft ground was most likely his undoing there. Last time out he was never going to get home 10f and will love the drop back down to 7. A trip he won over last time conditions were in his favour, as they are today. Jockey booking is a huge positive with Silvestre De Sousa in tremendous form at present. 5th/9th/3rd smarty socks stayed on well for a never nearer 3rd, Decent Fella weakened final furlong, Lutine Bell never competitve

530 IMAGINARY WORLD
This little filly has really been knocking on the door this year, and as they say, If you keep knocking someone will let you in sooner or later. She comes right from the bottom of the weights but inside the handicap. Has done nothing really wrong and a very good Each Way play today. 3rd 22/1, stayed on, finished 3rd never nearer.

GALWAY
525 BAHRAIN STORM unseated rider

LEICESTER

Tuesday 26th July - Glorious Goodwood Day 1.

I'll tell you the truth, I'm looking out of my window and there isn't a lot glorious about the weather here in Suffolk. But there is a lot Glorious about the racing at Goodwood today. I have precisely twelve minutes to write this blog before I have to leave for work. So I shall not waste time by rambling on. Remember these are my tips that are deduced by the way I pick horses. I bet on all my tips. 5pts Nap, 3pts NB, 2pts T, 1pt E/w treble and 1pt wins any others. From time to time I spot one or two through the day that i like or have missed, for them you have to follow me on twitter @GSPCCOYS.

GLORIOUS GOODWOOD
200 CIRCUMVENT (NB)
In my opinion this is a horse that is actually on the improve despite bare form figures. He is falling in the weights and I expecte a bold show from him last time out with excuses from the previous run. He didn't seem to handle the cut in the ground on what was a particularly wet weekend at Newmarket. Richard Hughes will be happy to get the day rolling for the jockeys title as his biggest rival looks to be on a good thing in the next. Just a matter of a relatively wide draw to contend with but this is hugely overpriced for me. Disappointed somewhat, never really got competitive

235 FIORENTE
On read form I'm not sure there is any horse in here that is of the level of this one. I think his price has been cut majorly following Ascot conqueror Nathaniels impressive King George win. But the man on board is the right man for me, and 1-1 in the jockeys race. 2nd, Ryan Moore well beaten in a stand off with Silvestre De Sousa

310 STRONG SUIT
Won the Jersey stakes at Royal Ascot very nicely and was a very close third (all three went to the judge) in the group 1 Prix Jean Prat in Paris. I'd expect him to take full advantage of the weight for age here. And of course 2-1 for Hughsie. WINNER 5/2 won very impressively, on the bridle until about 150 yards out.

345 CROWN DEPENDENCY
3-1 Hughsie. Hannon and Hughes are looking for a hatrick in this race. This one won his maiden here at Goodwood before a no-nonsense third in the Group 2 Norfolk Stakes, in what looked a very competitive field. Nothing really jumps out as a danger so I'd be looking at one of the Irish raiders for forecast players.
4th but with excuses in running, was battered about at the start and had to switch 2 or 3 times in the run in.
420 LLANARMON LAD
None of the previous raced horses gives me the impression that they are a winner in the making and this one makes most appeal of the newbies. E/w bet. 2nd 33/1, this is green because I tipped E/w. Beaten a nose on the line, ironically by a horse called Moustache!

450 CHAPTER AND VERSE
Not disgraced in last two efforts dispite finishes of 6th and 9th. Both were of higher quality than this and he has been dropped to below last winning mark as a result. Disappointing

525 ARGANIL (TREB)
In reality has done most of his winning on all weather, but put in a bold show on soft at Catterick last month. Phillip Makin seems to be getting the best out of him now and Kevin Ryan is in half decent form, well worth a shot in an open race. Never competitve

Monday 25th July - A prelude

One more day of poor midweek racing sufference, then it's off to the Sussex downs tomorrow for 5 days of "glorius" racing. We got 3 winners on Saturday, none yesterday. But thanks to Alex Noren's victory in the golf we have a little bit of stake to play with for the week. I was up a bit late this morning so cann ot really go into the whole weekend as I would have liked. Just one little story from yesterday to make you giggle. We had my sons christening yesterday afternoon, and after moved onto the Swan, Westerfield (near Ipswich). Now we presumed that my 3 year old daughter was on the bouncy castle as that was where she had spent the majority of the afternoon. However, upon investigation she was not to be seen. On arrival back in the pub I was pointed in the direction of Piper. She had found herself a barstool and had ordered herself a plate of chips and a drink of blackcurrant, all on daddy's tab I might add. I was so proud, although I'd have been a bit more impressed had she ordered me a pint of Aspall, but it wasn't to be.

Onto todays bets.

Sunday 24th July - Wow, how do you describe a day like yesterday?

I'll touch briefly on the initial issue and that is the death of Amy Winehouse, one news report stated that people were shocked by the sudden death of the star. I cannot possibly say I was shocked, nor was it sudden, she has been killing herself for years, my sympathy lies with the people who truly cared for her, and will truly mourn the loss of a loved one. She has been offered help a number of times through a number of sources, and trampled on each and everyone with blatant disregard. Don't get me wrong no-one deserves to die, but in the same ilk, perhaps she deserves a little less false sympathy and respect. Respest the music and art and not the person, is all I am saying. The really sad death, of course, was that of Royal Ascot winner Rewilding. The worst part is that it throws the animal rights freaks a bone to judge and attack our sport once again. The saddest part is that a beloved athlete has passed. Knowing people involved at Godolphin, and knowing how much they care, I know this will have hit them hard. The incident really dampened what was a terrific day. I lost money yesterday and had absolutely no care after watching that, twice thanks to the BBC. I'm undecided at the criticism levelled at the Beeb. We should start with a good point of their coverage. We have been moaning for weeks that the best races are early in the cards to fit TV schedules, and they stayed on board to show the 430 race. On channel 4 you would have been watching countdown for a while. There would have been people out there who don't have an accurate eye for the races and will have wondered what actually happened. I guess from the BBC's thinking if they don't show it they will appease people who don't want to see it, but disappoint those intrigued. However if they do show it, they appease those intrigued and those who don't want to see it have the ability to turn away for a moment. I don't know what I'd have done as the producer at the beeb in that situation, I'm just playing devils advocate to a channel that comes in for a lot of criticism for it's sports coverage. I cannot possibly comment on Norway or China as, I must be honest, I'm a little ignorant on the matters and don't really know exactly what has happened.
I'm going to move straight into my selections and not really talk about yesterday, I'll sum up the weekends punting tomorrow.

FOOTBALL
With both city rivals playing out a relatively disappointing 1-1 draw yesterday, I think both Celtic and Hibs will have a go at each other in a bid to gain early bragging rights in their respective home towns. I like Sky Bet/Victor Chandlers 8/11 that there will be over 2.5 goals in this match.

Saturday 23rd July - After lengthy deliberation I'm backing ....

.....Workforce. I just he has a bit more about him than the others. I fancy Rewilding for the FC, Nathaniel and St Nick to fight out 3rd place with no disgrace to either. I hope it's a terrific race, the field has been decimated in numbers but the class is still there. I've updated yesterdays blog with the winner, yep, just the one! Hit the bar again on TDF with Sammy Sanchez getting jumped by Pierre Rolland after he had just pulled him up Alpe D'Huez. Realistically I think Sam has been a little naive this tour and the last 2 days have cost him a massive chance of winning. He has looked tremendously strong going up but a bike change just as the attacks began thursday really cancelled his chances of a podium in Paris. I'd feel sorry for him if he had a mechanical problem but it turns out he just wanted one with more user friendly gears! Then he just had no idea that Rolland was going to use and abuse him! The golf is doing much better, Over in Europe, Alex Noren has a 3 shot lead overnight and in the US Paul Goydos is 1 shot off the lead and Spencer Levin shot a suberb 66 to throw his name in the hat. Onto todays selections as I have precisely 15 minutes to finish writing this blog.

Fabian Cancellara is the obvious favourite here, I can't have him at the price, not after a long ardous tour, I'm doing Tony Martin to win, then each way on , the real breakthrough act of the tour imo, Edvald Boasson-hagen and David Millar. All 3 are fantastic time triallists. I expect Cancallara will win though. However Eurosport will most likely have no interest in who actually wins the time trial as the real battle will come at the end as Frandy Schlecks will have to try and get within 1 minute of whatever time Cadel Evans thrashes out.

After another 4 days of sifting through tosh, we have some "better" racing, we don't really go full on until tomorrow, but today is a good move in the right direction. It was nice to go in and edit yesterdays blog with winners, haven't had that pleasure for a couple of days. Once again each way players will have got out just fine yesterday, win only punters, we have to try again. Only a 7pt loss, but to be fair both the NAP and NB were narrow 2nds and the third for the treble was a head 3rd in a 6 run event with 3 non runners! Effectively we were an accumulative half length from a monster profit, narrow margins huh.
Well, @theGambolar turned me over yesterday by 1 and half points. Which was unlucky, but that brings the score to 2-2. Tour De France, I completely disregarded Andy Schleck to mine and the pelotons peril, the fella just rode away on the 2nd of the days 3 HC climbs like he was riding to visit his mate. The measure of the man, and all pro cyclists, is that he gave the impression he put less effort in that than I would stick in to conquer the Valley Road(it's a location statement, it's a road in Ipswich) The advice was to back Frank Each way and he duly obliged with a second place finish atop the Galibier.
In the European golf we have the overnight joint leader, Alex Noren. Woo hoo, Romain Wattell would be thereabouts also had he not tripled the 17th. In the US code this week we have Goydos and Cauley 1 and 2 shots off the pace respectively. Happy days.
Onto todays selections shall we?

Thursday 21st July - Can't help feeling I've missed a trick

I have over 100 followers on Twitter now so that express is moving along nicely, however the blog still only averages about 30 reads. Yesterday was my second highest all time viewing and I didn't get a single "Chicken Dinner", Hopefully we can go better today. Had another little battle with @theGambolar yesterday and this time I came out on top. Which has forced me to rethink the blog a little. It will hold it's current format for the rest of July and then in August I shall take the adventurous step of having a shot at more races. I have been picking winners and not backing them, anyone paying attention on twitter will have had it off. Have a little look at my King George blog, I think all I achieved from it though is to show just how difficult a race it is to call. I have absolutely no idea who I'm going to back. The Gamby vs Guy 1pt challenge is at Uttoxeter today, so keep your eyes peeled on twitter for them. Plus my golf "tips" are up for the weekend so have an eyeful. Onto todays selections shall we?

TOUR DE FRANCE
Today the tour heads to the highest summit finish in it's history, atop the Col de Galibier. The riders have to make their way up to the finish, surplus of 2.6k above sea level. They have the little matter of 2HC climbs en route. Expect the usual breakaway suspects to have a go in a bid to land the KOM jersey, Roy, Chavanel, Hoogerland. but it will be one of the leading protagonists that stands atop the Galibier, Contador will have a go but he is too short for me, Andy Schleck doesn't look fit enough to me. Samuel Sanchez will be my first choice as always when uphill, he was my A/P pick and sitting 5th overall he has a lively chance at the moment. My second choice is well overpriced. Frank Schleck 2nd can be backed at 16/1 on Bet 365, if Leopard Trek and Frank make the right call here then the older half of "Frandy" has a massive chance both today and tomorrow. Leave Andy alone, he will win the tour one day just not this year but Frank looks strong, much stronger than his brother.

Have a good day, good luck and happy punting.

This weeks golf

As I said last week, what I know about golf can be passed on very quickly, the US golf I find easier to predict as they produce stats for absolutely everything! I'll just give you my selections and if you agree with any of them then you can back them.

NORDEA MASTERS
D. Johnson
A. Noren
R. Wattell (I hear this guy is the next big thing!)
R. Carlberg
V. Dubuisson

CANADIAN OPEN
C. Wi
B. Cougley
J. Malinger
P. Goydos
S. Levin

EVIAN MASTERS (ladies)
P. Creamer

I will be backing them Each way. There is a method to my madness but it really is not significant to their chances of winning so therefore I shall not bore you with it.
Good luck.

The King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes

Saturday 23rd July 430pm, all eyes turn to Ascot and a monster renewal. 2 Royal Ascot winners, a Derby winner, a grand old lady, and a horse who took a gap year to fulfil his 2yo potential. plus a couple more. We'll have a look through, I shall not divulge my bet until Saturday as usual, I'm just going to throw a few pointers at you to help you out.

DEBUSSY - Course form 077, Distance form 3805, Form on ground softer than good 13
Trainer - Mahmood Al Zarooni / Jockey - Ahmed Atjebi
This looks to be here as a pacemaker for the stable first string, stranger things have happened than a Godolphin 2nd string overturning the 1st string and the ground prediction at present would give him half a chance a best. He is not here to win the race so don't waste your cash.

REWILDING - Course form 1, Distance form 311, Form on ground softer than good 22
Trainer - Mahmood Al Zarooni / Jockey - Frankie Dettori
3rd to Workforce in the Derby last year but bounced back by winning the Voltigeur stakes 2 months later. Found the trip too far in the Leger, this year he is unbeaten having landed the Sheema classic in Dubai before causing the upset of the Royal meeting when overturning the tank that is So You Think. SYT didn't last out this trip and we know Workforce will so the match ups between the 3 are tricky to use as a formguide. This horse has the potential to come in under the radar again as at present all the talk is about Workforce and St Nick. I'd give this a massive chance and you could do worse.

ST NICHOLAS ABBEY - Course form N/A, Distance form 1, Form on ground softer than good 113
Trainer - Aidan O'Brien / Jockey - TBC
I think he will need to continue his progression to take this. he won nicely when staying on to beat Midday over this trip at Epsom, although Mr Quealley can be accused of sending the mare too early. That may have been a group 1 but this is a much stronger event. Midday is famous for idling in front so could be tricky how much you can take from that win, has a huge chance if continued rate of progression is consistent.

WORKFORCE - Course Form 5, Distance Form 151, Form on ground softer than good 11
Trainer - Sir Micheal Stoute / Jockey Ryan Moore
Only real blip in career came in this event last year when stablemate Harbinger destroyed the field with pace and set a new course record. Came back to land the Arc impressively. First run this year saw him run down Poet to land the Brigadier Gerard. Tried to run the finish out of SYT in the Eclipse but the distance just suited the tank better. Workforce is a class horse. Arguably the best in this race. If he is on his day, the race runs right and the correct decisions made then he wins.

MIDDAY - Course form N/A, Distance Form 23112, Form on ground softer than good 411
Trainer - Sir Henry Cecil / Jockey TBC
Sir Henry's wonder mare, has she gone? turned over by St Nick at Epsom, then left behind by Misty for me at the Curragh. I have one issue here, I love this filly she has made me money in the past, although she races out of a different yard Owner/racing manager connections are identical to workforce. If she is here by merit and not as a pacemaker then surely Tom Quealley would already be confirmed as the jockey? If there was 1 extra and Quealley was riding I'd have a go Each way as she is a gutsy little lady but I fear she is coming towards the end of her hayday and will be used to rival Debussy for the pace.

NATHANIEL - Course form 1, Distance form 121, Form on ground softer than good 21
Trainer - John Gosden / Jockey - William Buick
This one is the undoubted dark horse of the race. His carrer has been glittering really, It goes like this : Newmarket 1m, 2nd half length to Frankel, Doncaster 1m, 2nd shd to Picture Editor, Haydock 1m4 1st 2l to Madrasa, Chester(Group3) 1m4 2nd hd to Treasure Beach, Ascot(Group2) 1m4 1st 5l to Fiorente.
He will be happy with any rain between now and Saturday. The owners are not going to pay £75,000 to supplement him at the last minute if they don't think he has a chance. He is a horse rapidly on the up he may find 1 or 2 too good here but will in no way be disgraced.

SEVILLE - Course form N/A, Distance form 022, Form on ground softer than good 212
Trainer - Aidan O'Brien / Jockey - TBC
This one, like Nathaniel takes advantage of the 3yo weight allowance, Seville was unlucky last time out in the Grand Prix de Paris when collared by Andre Fabre's Meandre who finished like the TGV. I don't think Aidan will have much interest in taking on the pace here and it looks as though Seville comes over on merit. He is improving with every run this year and has a big win in him soon, I wouldn't write him off at a big price but another whose E/w chances are limited by the lack of an 8th runner.

Hope this has helped a little, it's probably confused a little, I know I'm less convinced as to who I'm backing after writing it.  Good luck whoever you chose, I just hope it's a fantastic race.

Wednesday 20th July - Follow @theGambolar

Last night I blew away the cobwebs from a mundane evening at work, myself and Sean Williams (AKA #Gamby) had a little toe to toe over the card at Bangor, unfortuneatly yours truly was beaten, Lord Ryeford and Balnagore to Kack Handed. Evidently anyone on twitter should follow the fellow as he can pick more winners at Bangor than me :-p Seriously though he is a good guy who likes his racing and puts his money where his mouth is. Those are the tipsters whose opinion I am interested in.
Anyway back to me, I managed to find another NAP who would subsequently be removed from the race, not good. Nothing else came in for me. In the Tour we had Jeremy Roy away in yet another breakaway, but once again he found others too strong, a huge win for big Thor who has carried himself with true dignity as a worthy World Champion this tour, both as a strong teammate for his sprint "rival" Tyler Farrar, to his mammoth breakaway on a cat 2 climb! Right we'll get onto the selections for today, 6 today as the racing has improved a mere smidge on the last 2 days.

TOUR DE FRANCE
Today sees another descent into the finish, I hope the Tour organisers have checked with Andy Schleck first, and if it rains God could be in a bit of bother with the underperforming Luxembourger also. Message to Andy, unsure if you are on twitter or not, I wouldn't follow you anyway because I dislike the way you conduct yourself, man up sunshine, you lost because you aren't fit enough and rely on your brother to tow you around. Today should be a breakaway haven and I've chucked in a little each way on Chavanel, Van Garderen  and Gerdeman. Silvain is overdue a win and this is his last chance. Tejay is well of the pace after doing a stellar job as part of Mark Cavendish's lead out train and deserves another crack at solo glory, and Linus should be let free of the Schleck shackles today. I would love to see Contador attack the Scholecks again today, they will be expecting it this time, especially if wet, so can't have any excuses when they get destroyed again.

Have a good day, good luck and happy punting.

Tuesday 19th July

Hello, not a lot to comment on yesterday as I was at the zoo with my little girl, she had a good time, enjoyed the giraffes, wasn't too keen on the millipede in the touch and feel session, so she launched it across the room. There is not a lot of point talking about yesrdays selections that went, in chronological order, 4N5. Not the best form, although Mandarin Spirits withdrawal meant that we only lost 7pts as opposed to the full 12. I'm just going to give my selections today and not write them up as it seems to be luckier just to put them out there. And saves a hell of a lot of time.

That's it today, have a good one, good luck and happy punting.

Monday 18th July - Back on track!

A very tidy profit yesterday due to 4 winners in Ireland, including a quickfire 440/1 treble at the Curragh. Plus the winner, if an obvious one, in the tour de france, but sh*t out flat on the golf. It's going to be a quickie today as the racing is of typical Monday quality, but don't panic only a week until Glorious Goodwood.

NAP
MANDARIN SPIRIT 430 AYR
He was running well in the mid to high sixties around this sort of time last year, been off the boil a bit lately but has serious claims off a mark of 57 with the jockey taking off a further five lb. He is pretty well treated on rivalries to and i think is a big player in this race.

NB
GALPIN JUNIOR 900 BEVERLEY
This one was actually my NAP last tuesday over C&D, he was third that day and no real excuses can be found, he is kept on the same mark after what looks to be a solid effort, he has every chance of breaking his handicap duck in the very near future.

TREBLE
CLASSIC DESCENT 400 AYR
Game winner at Ripon 2 starts ago in this grade, stepped up slightly last time and combining that with the hike in weight did himself no injustice when 4th, back in the bottom rung and down 1lb from last time he has to be treated with respect, he has been pretty inconsistent this year and comes up against one or two in decent form but on bare paper this is very winable for him.

That's it for today, the riders in Le Tour are having a little rest, and I'm off to Africa Alive near Lowestoft with my daughter and her playschool.
Have a great day, good luck and happy punting.

Sunday 17th July - I'm glad I wasn't playing golf yesterday morning.

I'm glad I wasn't playing golf yesterday morning, to be true to myself I could safely say that each and every day, I understand the potential with golf as a betting event yet when your highest placed cash cow sits on 7-over par you can lose any passion very quickly. I will have some interest today as I sided with Anthony Kim E/w late last night at 33/1 for 4 places. I should imagine he'll double bogey the first and my interest in watching golf will be over for a while. Just the 3 winners yesterday left us just shy of original stake, we hit the bar a couple of times so we are refinding some form. I need a few today as I am losing ground in my tipping leagues. Shall we get on with it.

Nice easy stage after the last 3, A little jaunt down to Montpellier, Europcar will get a day off as the sprinting teams will chase down any breaks. Should be all about Mark Cavendish today, I'll chuck a little E/w on the 3 Sky boys who can sprint, Swift, Boasson-Hagen and Thomas as they are still looking for stage wins and grabbed a lift yesterday when Uran pulled on the lead young riders jersey at the end of the stage.

Have a great day, Good Luck and Happy Punting.

Saturday 16th July - the 205 at Market Rasen looks like an epic.

As it's Saturday you just get selections without the garb, but the first at Market Rasen looks like a real treat, a pile of horses capable of winning the race, surely Rajnagan cannot win again? I'm taking him on with a selection from way left field but hey that's me. Just the one winner for me yesterday, Saigon under a perfectly timed ride from Kirsty Milzarek although we did hit the bar a few times with decent prices so any each way players who follow me in will have been ok.
You know the staking plan by now, 5pts NAP, 3pts NB, 2pts T, 1pt E/w treble and 1pt the rest. I shall bold the feature selections, here goes.

Todays finish of the tour has been used 4 times in history, those four occasions were won by Marco Pantani, Lance Armstrong(twice) and Alberto Contador. Each man then went on to win the tour outright. By rights I should use those stats and back Contador, A.Schleck and Evans to effectively lay off my antepost bets. But I'm not going to do that. My guys look fresher and therefore I'm hoping to boost my earnings on
Frank Schleck - looks much fitter than his brother. 13/2(PaddyPower)
Samuel Sanchez - Won the first real mountain stage and should be keen to stamp authority in the pyrenees 10/1 (365,betfred,will hill)
Ivan Basso -undoubtedly one of the best climbers in the world, skipped his native Giro D'Italia to concentrate on this. 16/1(Bwin win only) 14/1(BetFred)

Friday 15th July - I cannot think of a decent headline

Well, yesterdays analysis, Golf - going pretty well 3 players in the mix in the Open and 2 players in the mix in the US, Cycling - bagged 3rd and 4th and have stage winner outright. Horses - could do better! We hit the bar a couple of times in France, 3 seconds in fact. A little treble at Leopardstown spared any major blushes but still a considerable loss. Don't despair though, if you've used my staking plan all month you will still be in profit and that profit is safe for today at least. I'll get straight into it as I really have a little writers block this morning, oh and Twitter peeps, if you enjoy my little ramblings don't forget a #ff today, I'm stuck on 97 followers. I'm at work so I'll have plenty of time to do mine! he he.

NAP WHOZTHECAT 735 Pontefract
This horse likes the ground as quick as it can be, very well treated in the weights, 1lb lower than last winning mark. Last time out he was second when one paced in the finish after taking a hefty nudge when winding up his run, without that nudge he would certainly have been closer and the handicapper may have added a lb to him, but he has gotten away with it and should be able to take advantage today against a pretty inconsistent field. 5pt win

NB A HORSE CALLED MOLLY 825 Kilbeggan
Has done his winning at 3m but over 2m6 isn't really a lot of difference comparitively, he(i know molly the he, but it's a gelding so he must have been born with boy parts) seems to prefer chasing to hurdling and looks to be quite a stayer. Molly the boy horse comes in right at the bottom of the official weights with just the reserves lower, and is well treated to all reopposing rivals. I think a brisk gallop will suit him today as he is a stayer and with the quick ground he may just get it. 3pt win

TREBLE CAPTAIN BROWN 435 Haydock
Last run can be forgiven as it was a massive step up in class and the winner Eternal Heart is a very classy horse. This race is a lot easier and the favourite Colour Vision finished last in that race. It will be hard to guess the price here but tissue is 5/1 whereas he trades at 2.3bf and 1.97bd. I think Colour Vision may even be a safe lay for a place for those who like to get involved, he is far to short for me on conditions with the selection and i'd probably rate up C&D winner Dark Dune as the main danger. 2pt win

1pt E/w treble on the above.

745 COLONEL MAK

HAYDOCK

NEWBURY
340 SAIGON WINNER 6/1

TOUR DE FRANCE
Today should be a "little rest" for the main favourites after their excertions yesterday. A pretty light day climbing wise with just the HC Col D'Aubisque to worry about. A 42km drop to the finish will suit any breakaway that can get to the top of the Aubisque first with a moderate gap, and expect any descending machines to have a go. Expect someone from sky to have a pop and with Uran and Thomas well placed in the white jersey comp they might not be allowed, I'd throw Xabier Zandio in the mix for them. Others to like are Linus Gerdeman and Luis Leon Sanchez who both enjoy a big descent. Euskatel will probably want someone to have a pop and try to take a second consecutive stage in the pyrenees one chap well -placed to have a go for them is Egoi Martinez. I'd like to see the young american Tejay Van Garderen show the peloton his heels again as he is a very exciting prospect. But my main fancy today is PHILLIP GILBERT, the belgian has been riding out of his skin on this tour and even mixed it with some big guys on the Tourmalet yesterday. He knows his legs will carry him over an HC now and we saw the gap he pulled out just free wheeling down the back yesterday, if he descends with purpose I can't see anyone catching him.

Have a good day, good luck and happy punting.

Thursday 14th July - Where do I begin?

What a delectable feast of action we have today. The first real stage of the Tour De France (the first stage that the contenders will contest). The Open Golf, and solid cards from Leopardstown and Longchamp.
Firstly I'll explain the day off yesterday, normally if there is no blog then it would be because: a) I'm sulking, b)I'm hungover and/or still drunk, c)I'm not at home. However yesterday was none of the above, I was unwell but managed to look at the horses, there was just nothing that ticked my boxes. I spent the afternoon laying on the sofa watching the Tour De France, well done to Cav, picking up the Green Jersey. Now all he has to do is attach some fishing wire between his bike and the HTC car and get through the next 3-4 days. We better get started as lots to get in today.

NAP HINTON ADMIRAL 230 Hamilton
1 of 3 C&D winners in the field, Hinton Admiral has been running .... admirably of late including a win 3 starts ago followed by 2 thirds. Trainer Keith Dalgleish is really making a name for himself and the booking of champion jockey Paul Hanaghan has to be seen as a positive. Horses at the top end of their weighting spectrum often need a couple of runs to get used to a new mark and hopefully that is the case today. 5pt win

NB BOYNAGH JOY 825 Leopardstown
I put this one up on the 26th June when it landed a huge price Each way 4th home of 17. This is a slightly weaker event today and I was a bit surprised to see the price merely halved. I'm not concerned about the step up in trip, he has placed a furlong further still. I would not be shocked to see this one fire home to land us double figure odds. 3pt win

TREBLE DUALAGI 650 Bath
Twice a C&D winner including 3 starts ago where he had to negotiate through traffic before hitting the front a furlong out and ridden away to win. He is another pattern horse, he won at 59 before having 2 runs at 62, then a win at 61, two runs at 64 and now attempts to win off 63. Overpriced for me. 2pt win

1pt E/w treble on the above

TOUR DE FRANCE
I'm putting up 3 today.
Ivan Basso is a massive best price 33/1 with bet365. He should be there or thereabouts on the monster climbs, he won't be the first of the favourites to crack, that's for sure.
Frank Schleck could be a very big price today. He will be marshalling his brother all day, but I don't think Andy is firing on all cylinders this year and the brothers and their team may be forced to make a decision quickly.
David Moncoutie is the leading French hope for the day, and given that it's Bastille day expect him to be up for it. Betfred not only go best price 20/1 but offer up 4 places also.

THE OPEN GOLF
You could probably fit on a post it note what I know about golf, it used to be a postage stamp but seen as I can see the value in Golf Punting (no other sport can you realisticaly give a number of competitors a chance at treble figure prices) I have been making the effort to learn. The US tour is easier to get hold of as they produce stats for absolutely every eventuality. I'm merely just informing of my selections so if I pop up with a 250/1 winner on sunday you can see the truth. I've backed
J.Day 40/1
P.Harrington 40/1
J.Rose 50/1
M.Manassero 66/1
P.Hanson 80/1
A.Quiros 110/1
N.Colsaerts 125/1
S.Cink 140/1
F.Anderson-Hed 250/1
I have backed them all in available match bets, group bets, nationality bets, so if one of these comes in I'll be quids in.

VIKING CLASSIC
I've backed a couple that I've backed previously on the US tour and due to the big names "playing away" this gives them more of a chance, I guess.
H.Slocum 22/1
C.Couch 28/1
R.Imada 35/1
B.Lunde 90/1
R.Beem 250/1

Have a great day, I know I will (win or lose, I just love watching great sport), Good luck and Happy punting.

Tuesday 12th July - A Ton Up!

Yesterday we made it, after 12 days of the month we reached the magical 100pt profit mark. King's Road was impressive in it's role as a 12/1 NAP and to be fair we were unlucky elsewhere with a 2nd, 4th and a NR. I've got 11 selections today so we my need a couple of winners to keep the pot in our favour. Just quickly I'd like to state how I lost any respect I had for the Beckhams after they gave that poor child such a ridiculous name. I think they've been spending a bit too much time with the Cruises and complete bonkers is contageous. But that's just my opinion.
Onto how we are going to wrench some money from those poor bookies today.

NAP  GALPIN JUNIOR 430 Beverley
In his prime he ran in the 100's however now sits off a mark on 56. Both prior runs over C&D have produced fantanstic efforts including last time out when he was 2 of 15. With his main market rival hoisted 9lb from his last win it seems to play into the hands of the selection. He's looking at a tissue of 7/2 however Betfair currently trades at a shade of odds on. 4 Reoppose today from that last race but I don't think the pull in weight is enough to manage the distances. My guess is that Hambleton will go off favourite due to the 12 at the end of his form line. But back Galpin with abandon. 5pt win

NB BEST ONE 210 Brighton
He is 3lb below last winning mark and the only C&D winner in the field. Course form at Brighton plays out more than most other tracks. His form this year has been less than inspiring but I feel perhaps connections have thought to send him here as he has form at the track, in a bid to rekindle some spark. Well weighted on known rivalries, although I would put up What Katie Did as a fluent danger, I think Course form will hold up.
3pt win.

TREBLE BOLODENKA 300 Beverley
This looks quite a smart little handicap, where you could give a chance to all of the runners. I'm siding with the selection here. Paul Hanagan is flying in the jockey championship again. And Richard Fahey's horses are spring back to form. Granted his best form is in Claimers/Sellers but he seems to be off a decent handicap mark here and worth a crack. 2pt win

My Each Way selections for today as follows.
Linus Gerdeman - Moderate climb follwed by fast descent into the finish will suit Linus, he is one of the best descenders on tour and is far enough down the GC to make any gaps count.
Rigoberto Uran - Team SKY have made it clear they are just here for stage wins now and Uran looks best positioned to have a go today.
Levi Leipheimer - Somewhat a forgotten man, Levi has not really fulfilled his potential as yet, although having been dubbed the next Lance Armstrong surely will have done more harm than good with the pressure. Levi has the climbing and descending ability to have a go here and may be allowed to go by BMC who will most likely let Europcar or Rabobank do the work today.

Monday 11th July - Ouch!

Well back to earth with a bump yesterday, that was my first complete blank for, I don't know how long. Very disappointing. I didn't watch much racing yesterday as was engrossed in F1, Tour De France and Golf! Anyone who read to the bottom will have seen Sandy Casar E/w tipped up. He came 3rd at 25/1. So at least we got a few pence yesterday. Only 4 picks today. A pretty weak day of racing but these ones pop up for me so will be backed.

NAP KINGS ROAD 700 Killarney
Not a lot to like about any of these in this race, but I think Kings Road is the best treated in the weights, he has one on softer ground so the slight yield forecast shouldn't trouble him. Will be interesting to see opening price as tissue says 10 but betfair says 6.2. If he can repeat effort from 2nd in April then he should have a big chance here. 5pt win WINNER 12/1

NB CHEYENNE RED 330 Ayr
Reached a mark as high as 70 in the middle of last year, now down to 51. Blinkers used last time are left off today, and a step up to 7f is attempted by connections to bring home the spoils. Very well treated in the weights against some of the top end of the market. If the absent blinkers and step up in trip don't work it will be hard to find what will! 3pt win

TREBLE LEE'S ANTHEM 300 Ayr
Course and Distance winner, struggled in grade above this but has done well given hard luck in running last twice, a 3rd stab at this mark and well worth siding with in a race where any have every or little chance!
2pt win

1pt E/w Treble on above

1pt win selection JOHNNY HANCOCKS 620 Wolverhampton
Predominantly struggled in handicaps but does well in Selling/Claiming company. Has the ability to win this, the self belief is the ask.

Sunday 10th July - Well done Hayley

Hayley Turner has long been considered as the best female jockey around, recently the emergence of Cathy Gannon has made a little battle between the pair as to who finishes higher up the table. However, yesterday, a truly fabulous ride on Dream Ahead showed the general public that Hayley is one of the best jockeys around full stop. Her race craft was delightful, always keeping the horse in touch, she never panicked. The gap appeared for her and she magnificently steered the horse through it to claim the first standalone Group 1 win for a female jockey ever. If it was Frankie, Ryan Moore, Spencer or Fallon delivering that ride we would be waxing lyrical about a "classic" ride from a top jock, that is how Hayley's ride yesterday should be treated. I believe it will have opened the door for more female jockeys to come through and balance out the numbers and hopefully top trainers will look up and see that they can book these ladies with confidence. Obviously Miss Turner and Miss Gannon are out in front, a long way at that, but there are some very capable girls out there who deserve the bookings, Milzarek, Ryan, Scott, Pike, Harrison etc... I'm sorry if I missed you out, I'm just waffling a bit. I think, given the rides, Hayley or Cathy would be genuine contenders for the jockeys title and with some exciting young men coming through also, Buick, De Souza, Morris, Barzalona etc... there are very exciting times ahead for our sport. The whole racing world sat up last year when Paul Hanagan broke into racings elite and landed the jockeys title and we could well see a new name on that title this year with De Souza firing in winners and sitting in 3rd place, the exciting Will Buick in 6th, both Hayley and Cathy sit comfortably inside the top 20. This group 1 win could land some big rides for the girls and push them towards the top 10. However, good as that was, the best ride of the day was Martin Lane carrying my cash aboard Noble Citizen to ensure a profit before the afternoon had even started.
Sorry for waffling, you'd like my tips I suppose. I'm going to stick my Tour De France and F! tips on here as I can't be monkeyed to go and write another blog.

Saturday 9th July - I'm really not liking this July Festival...

... and why should I, after amassing over 70 points profit, I have managed to shift 24 of them in 2 days! There were some hard luck stories however, my each way treble finished NR, 4th, 4th. Both 4th's were in 15 runner handicaps!!! Gamilati took a big prize, she entered my equations but given her defeat to stablemate last time she was left alone, had she got up up Newmarket 2 weeks ago then I may well have been on board. And Timepiece, I said "she is a listed horse, a mile will be too sharp, I wouldn't let Tom Queally carry any of my money with confidence." Sure enough Timepiece is now a Group 1 winner, over a mile, after a perfect tactical ride from afore mentioned jockey!!!!
I have 18 selections today and not enough time to wax lyrical about them, and some of the typing may be a little off as my son is helping me write my blog this mornig, he is having a cuddle with daddy after performing his latest party trick, he seems to find a need to shut his fingers in draws and cupboards, we thought after the first 57 times he'd have started to work it out. Apparently not!

Friday 8th July - Newmarket Festival Day 2

A couple of gratuitous schoolboy errors yesterday cost me a profit. Firstly, I went in on every Newmarket race when I only wanted to really get involved in about 3 of them! No-ones fault but my own. Secondly I backed Mickael Barzalona to ride a quick double, unfortunately it was 2 races too early as he let me down on my two then promptly won the next 2 races at 9/1 and 12/1. Great! I did get a couple of winners however and managed to take a horse into the notebook which will no doubt be overpriced next time, so we move on.

FEATURE - FALMOUTH STAKES 300 NEWMARKET
Antara - Has to command respect having won a group 3 at the Epsom meeting last month.
First City - Finished second to Antara in said group 3, then 3rd in the Winsdor Forest.
I'm a dreamer - Very disappointing at Ascot after landing an impressive win here in May. Does not want any rain at all.
Lily of the Valley - Has to command respect, out of Gallileo, won group races on ground ranging from good all the way to soft, albeit in France.
River Jetez - No doubt a class horse on international form, unsure as to whether the drop in trip will suit.
Sahpresa - Twice winner of the chariot stakes over course and distance. That trumps any of these for experience. Massive shout and true favourite.
Timepiece - Has shown twice that she is way off group level. I think her calling is fillies listed events over a longer trip than this. Wouldn't be happy in the slightest allowing Tom Quealley to carry my cash here.
JOVIALITY - It's a big risk, I know, but 3 year olds have a terrific record in this race. I don't think she gave her best argument at Ascot and wasn't happy with the cut in the ground. Will like the firmer ground here, providing no substantial rain. Mr Gosden is in decent nick at present and Will Buick is a future champion on board.
Maqaasid - Seems to be the nearly horse of late. Not a fan of the jockey, couldn't back with confidence, but on consistency an each way chance.
Masaya - Big step up for a horse whose biggest win is a class 2 handicap. Out of depth here.
Memory - Since impressively landing the Albany and Cherry Hinton last year she has really not been the same horse. Her refusal to race in the 1000 guineas will cast doubt over her temperament every time she races, and she never gave much account of herself at Royal Ascot. However, she may have needed that run?

NAP OIL STRIKE 400 Ascot
Well weighted, below last winning mark, and handy running style should help him recover from a bad draw. For me the best horse in the race, if he wins you get paid, if he puts in a bold effort from a shocking draw you get a notebook horse. Happy days.

NB KARDLY'S HOPE 605 Gowran Park
3lb lower than last winning mark, her bad form is better than most of her rivals bad form. Massively overpriced in this race, with 15 bad runners, anything above 16/1 is overpriced for me.

TREBLE LOKI'S REVENGE 150 Newmarket
100% record at the track, 50% over the distance, 25% on turf, 33% all starts, in frame 75% of efforts. Had a little lay off, but when last seen, beat the favourite, Steps, when handing him 7lb, this time he takes 4lb from the same runner, so he is better off 11lb!!!! against the favourite. And Fred Done wants to give me 25/1. Fill your boots!!!!!!

Thursday 7th July - Newmarket July Festival Day 1

I've had a look at the full card at Newmarket, I was asked for some tips and had a look, now I guess I have to put my money where my mouth is! So I will give you my take on the card at HQ before handing out my 3 best bets and we have 1 further selection. I am treating all Newmarket races as 1pt selections.

NEWMARKET
120 Crimson Knight is a C&D winner but this is a massive step up in class, Hurrican Higgins has shown me nothing to suggest he is a group race horse. Zain Al Boldan is an interesting one as she can take a bit of weight off the boys, but I still feel she is outclassed here. Solar Sky looks like he could do with further, although he has won over shorter, I don't really like Tom Quealley so I can't back it, however he does have a terrific chance, Masked Marvel also enters my thoughts, 8th in the Derby although a Royal Ascot winner and a runner up in the Irish Derby have both come from behind him that day. This is certainly very winable for Masked Marvel but I have him in my Tote Tentofollow for the season so I get my rewards if he wins. My money, and only one unit of my money, will be having a little tickle on CENSUS. Richard Hannons colt looks to be a very progressive type, against the other two with are regressing for this, a game second to Brown Panther at Royal Ascot and both runners that have come out of that race have put in much improved performances. Ryan Moore takes the ride and hopefully we can get off to a flyer.

150 It's between 2 here, Roman Soldier, 2nd to Power in the Coventry, and FREDERICK ENGELS, winner of the Windsor Castle. I'm siding with the selection as he is a very progressive type and won his Royal Ascot race easily, The favorite came from a good draw and was run down by a horse that found trouble every furlong. I just think Frederick will have a bit more about him and Moore might get a little antsy on Roman Soldier and perhaps send him on too soon. WINNER 7/4

225 MALTHOUSE put in a huge effort over C&D 12 Days ago when finishing, a well beaten, second. This is a much weaker event than the Tattersalls Million and with the red hot Silvester De Sousa in the saddle, Mark Johnstons gelding should defy top weight and land a big price. A big each way shout also.

300 This was the race that gave me the biggest headache. All of these have good form if a little inconsistent. On bare reading Redwood's second to Rewilding in Dubai makes him a fair favorite, but he hasn't been seen for 5 months and there is no evidence as to how he will react to the time off. I'm siding with CAMPANOLOGIST given the record of Mickael Barzalona in Godolphin blue at Newmarket. A big enough price to go each way, he has done most of his winning in Europe but he does know how to win and this is a big chance.

335 Again another race with multiple winning chances. Burwaaz looks a decent sort but not a huge fan of the jockey, although the smaller field will negate my negatives towards him. Harbour watch looked a very good winner but it will be interesting to see if he handles the quicker ground. I'm sticking to my tested formula from the race before. Mickael Barzalona+Godolphin Blue+Newmarket=winner. CITIZENS CHARTER

405 I should be going for a royal blue treble and taking Bridgefield here but I don't think the horse has a chance. It's between the regressing Fury and the impressive CAI SHEN. I would have actually preferred Cai Shen to run in the 225 as the trip would suit better. But he does a fantastic turn of foot when asked. He came from absolutely miles back to finish second to Sagramor at RA and in a smaller field I think he has the turn of foot to hurt these. Fury, in my opinion, isn't as good a 3 year old as he was a 2 year old. I think the Guineas run was flattering as it was a false race, I've said before most had given up by halfway. Then a disappointing second in a listed event next time out. I think Fury backers could be in for more disappointment today and he is my "Lay of the Day".

440 See below.

NAP WILLIAMS WAY 630 Doncaster
Although all of his winning has come over shorter, he is 5lb lower than last winning mark, and he is on favourable terms with most of these. He is overpriced in my opinion and a big shout of a place at least against a tissue of 12/1, currently trading on Betfair at 16.5.

NB BOSUN BREEZE 915 Doncaster
With the jockeys 5lb claim he is effectively 1lb lower than last winning mark in this grade, he has been running in better events to no real avail. He is on favourable terms with 6 of his 8 rivals, nothing to read into with the other 2, should well be anywhere between 4/1 and 6/1 come racetime.

TREBLE LA FORTUNATA 440 Newmarket
He has run big races in higher grade than this, and seems to prefer being at the bottom of the weight in a better race, than the top of the weight in a worse race. I'm happy to take on Apace as I don't think Sir Micheal Stoute has quite refound his mojo yet, despite finally jumping off the cold trainers board. I think the selection is a fair price for win or each way players.

Wednesday 6th July - I wasn't sure but it is?

The subject of the tagline is that I wasn't sure there could be many days with worse racing than yesterday, that is until I had a look at today's racecards! Nothing better than a class 4 handicap in sight! To tell you the truth it's pretty rubbish! I've managed to squeak out 3 selections and wouldn't mind 1 of them at least coming in, after drawing a blank yesterday.

NAP LONG TIME COMING 800 Naas
This is mostly an each way chance, with a tissue price of 25/1 and a formline that reads 008780 you won't find this in many tipsters angles or on many betting slips up and down the land today. The reason I'm throwing it in is this. That formline is for distances of 8,8,10,10,9,8 and this is over 7. His record over 6&7 although not enrapturing is much better 22828356, the two 8's come from a 22 runner effort and a race won by Treasure Beach so they can be forgiven as you would any other animal. He has been tumbling down the weights and is now 13lb lower than last placed effort! In fairness his best form against today's rivals comes from the backend of last year. But blinkers are left on today in a bid to try and find that form. Paddy Power go 25/1 so you've got a generous 5/1 against a place for a horse who is off a career low mark over his optimum distance.

NB JOLLY RANCH 210 Bath
This one excites me a little to see if i've got it right. The selection here has done 80% of his running on all weather and the firm conditions at Bath could be perfect for him to make the transition to turf today. He is drawn very well on a track where the draw counts for a lot, he is well down the weights from what he is capable of, he should be able to get a lead which he wants, I think he will go out to make all and on the very quick ground there is no reason why he can't. He is on favourable terms with 75% of the field. No prices yet but Betfair trades at 12's and the tissue is 10/1. So still a solid shout for the cautious each way punter. WINNER 8/1

TREBLE CODA AGENCY 750 Kempton
The booking of Neil Callan is an initial positive for me, Neil has been in terrific form of late and is always one to watch. Coda Agency has done all of his winning on the all weather, 5 of which have come at Kempton. He is on the same mark as when second over C&D in April and just 1lb higher than when winning a similar event at Lingfield in January. 16/1 is a massive overprice on a horse that has won this type of event 9 (nine) times and is a 5 time C&D winner!

Good luck and Happy Punting.

Tuesday 5th July - I'm not really feeling today!

Another monster day yesterday. Bets landed 3pts @ 13/2 and 2pts @ 12/1 + a 1pt @ 5/1. We smashed out a 39.5pt profit. I've had a look at today and there's not really a lot that I like. I have my NAP selection which is a massive overprice and then I have a pick in the listed fillies race at Ponte.

NAP VHUJON 245 Wolverhampton.
This is a strange tip, a horse that has not won for a long time. But this is a horse that has won off a mark of 90 and now races off 53! I don't really know why they'd keep the horse running if it wasn't showing enough at home, he is very well weighted reopposing most of his rivals and out of a decent draw could find himself in a great position. At 6 years old the horse will know a bit more about racecraft than his younger rivals and if he is travelling where he wants to then I think he could very well spring a huge shock. (well to everyone else, not me, ha ha)

400 Pontefract - OFF CHANCE, This is just a 1pt selection not a NB. The selection here has the most experience at this level by a mile. Dangers are the improving pair of Dark Promise and Law of the Range, and if recapturing form that saw her 3rd in a group 3, Kinky Afro.

That's it for today. Get over to guysbettingtips@wordpress.com if you would like a little pointer of todays stage of the Tour.

Monday 4th July - Happy Independance Day

Firstly apologies for no blog yesterday, after watching the Haye "fight", we proceded to continue consuming some ropey-tasting lager in a little venue behind the docks that used to be called the premier pool club. Bearing in mind it was midnight on a Saturday we were a little bit disturbed that the only people on the dancefloor were the barstaff and that when our group turned up it actually quadrupled the patronage at the time. We should have really got the idea when we came stumbling up the road to the venue, a relatively large group of lads, on a stag do, and the front of house staff let us in without even batting an eyelid. They didn't even charge us for the priveledge. The place began to fill up between half 12 and 1 only for the lights to come on at 130 as that was the end of their licence. The place was supposed to be a nightclub! So after that we headed into town and nestled in a PUB! until closing time at 3am. Licensing laws in this country are very odd! I was awoken from my pit of slumber by my wife and she encouraged me to jump in the shower, cooked me bacon and eggs, and then drove me to work(I live a 5 minute walk from my work!) Unfortunately there was no time to study horses let alone write a blog.
Enough self indulgence, you'd like some tips. Only 2 winners Saturday, but a NB 3pt win at 14/1 on Halicarnassas went a long way to securing a 24.5 pt profit for the day. (I advised at 25/1 in am but only count SP's for profit purposes)
Onto today.

NAP VEZERE 430 Brighton.
Vezere's best run of all time came 2 starts ago at this course, a course where form at the track goes a huge way. That race at Brighton has held up ok with the winner landing 2 more events since. This race is the sort of horrible little bottom grade race that Phluke laps up but he is carrying a penalty for a win last week. Ilie Nastase is also high up the betting and is far from a convincing racehorse and that encouraged me to look further down the list. I think my selection is well treated on weights and has a lot in hand over some at the top of the handicap. I make Love Nest the real danger but Vezere looks like this could be his chance. If he doesn't win here then I don't think he ever will.

NB EL VIENTO 820 Ripon
Last time out he was hampered at the start and left in rear, but shaped well enough to outrun his 20/1 odds at the best and finish 4th. What we have to think is that without the hamper at the beginning he may well have won or at least placed. Official distances were three quarters-short head-neck. The 3rd from the race has gone out and won since and the winner holds an entry in Fridays Heritage Handicap at Newmarket. I think the trouble at the start has got us a winner on a decent weight at a decent price. WINNER 13/2

TREBLE LIVING IT LARGE 740 Windsor
6lb lower than his last run on turf due to a pretty poor run on the all weather tracks. Has to be given a chance with a 43% record of finishing in the frame when running on turf. Given his last 4 were out of the frame, law of averages and probability suggests he is primed to go well today off a decent mark. Every horse in this race has shown winning qualities and have all had purple patches but nothing appears to be in a patch right now and for that I've chosen the selection as best treated by the handicapper. WINNER 12/1

Saturday 2nd July - Workforce or So You Think?

We are due an absolute cracker today. I'll disect that in a minute. A good day yesterday thanks to my NAP lifting Sir Micheal Stoute off the cold trainers list. And once again we were set to suffer "disappointment Friday" at Wimbledon. Did Rafa raise his game? Or did Murray just throw it away? That will be disected by the tennis "experts" all day, they'll probably even forget that there is 2 lovely ladies playing for a shiny plate this afternoon. Enough about tennis, my sports blog is elsewhere, this is racing. I didn't watch a lot of racing yesterday, I spent the day with my kids so not a lot to comment on.

THE CORAL ECLIPSE
SANDOWN 310
Confront has been thrown in by Sir Micheal to set the pace high, this will put the reigns in the hands of stablemate Workforce. But don't back by any means, it's not going to win.
So You Think the giant. At Ascot he just didn't get away from the pack as he would have liked and was taken down by a smart stayer in Rewilding. He hasn't become a bad horse on that race, if anything he will be improved for it as the trainer has some weaknesses to iron out, which weren't evident on his previous two runs where he demolished the fields. If you ask me my opinion, I'd say that this is a better race than the Prince of Wales, that's probably why we have such a small field. Workforce is better than Rewilding, simple. And Snow fairy, maybe not to the ability of the big 2 is better than anything that finish 3rd or worse at Ascot. Also it looked as though the trip was a bit sharp for So You Think, in my opinion. I'd prefer him stepped up than down and prefer him for the King George&Queen Elizabeth later in the month. We'll see what happens, but any plunge on this may see me throw a lay hat into the ring.
Sri Putra was 3rd in the Prince of Wales. This is a stronger race, and I'd say he should hope for 4th.
WORKFORCE is the winner of this for me. Ladbrokes take him on at 7/4 and if you ask me they've got it wrong. Not much form has come from his seasonal reappearance at the Brigadier Gerard, but that day he was conceding 7lb to the field and still won relatively comfortably. The pace has to be high for him to assert towards the finish and in Confront he has an able front runner. I think he could take this going away and If I was in the odds compiling room for my employers I'd be a bit more cautious in taking him on.
Snow Fairy. Credit to Ed Dunlop for throwing his filly into the ring for a crack at this. So far this year the girls haven't fared up against the boys, Midday v St Nicholas, Goldi v Canford. Midday and Goldikova are both much better horses than Snow Fairy and I don't think St Nick would stand up to Workforce or SYT, on that basis 3rd is the best she can hope for.

Onto my selections
NAP SENTRY DUTY 340 Sandown
Nicky Henderson's smart hurdler has the pace to take an event on the flat, and has done so previously. Kieran Fallon takes the ride and for me that is a smart booking. He was very disappointing first seen this season at the Chester Cup. He did however put in a big run in the Cesarewich at the back end of last season. He is 15lb better off with Aaim to Prosper who won that day with the selection just 4 lengths back. I think he has a big each way chance in this and there is plenty of 16/1 available.

NB HALICARNASSAS 325 Haydock
After a respectable winter in Dubai, he has put in some big runs in this sort of company without getting home. With 4 places on offer he is a massive each way shout at 25/1 offered by Ladbrokes. I think he is well treated in the weights reopposing some he has met before and could spring a shock here. And when everyone is analysing the shock I'll direct them to my blog! WINNER 14/1

TREBLE SECRET ASSET 430 Haydock
He has looked a little short of pace on recent runs over 5f, therefore the step back up to 6f should suit ncely. He is a big price at 14/1 and again 4 places paid makes him a super each way shot. Luke Morris takes the ride and although he has struggled to carry his form from the winter into the turf season he is still more than capable of a decent win, and if the horse allows, he does read races very well.
