Tuesday 1st May -

Morning, hideous day yesterday, but it's a new month now and a clean slate. I'm going to try to be good and keep the stats up to date for this month. We'll see how that goes. lol.
Lots of racing scheduled at present, but with ground already coming up Soft or Heavy and, well it's been pissing down here (Suffolk) since about 5pm yesterday evening, I don't know how the rest of the country has fared. Hopefully we can find one or two decent winners today.

Monday 30th April -

Good Morning, less than a week until the Guineas. Exciting. A solid day yesterday, the ones that should have won, did. Kissed looked very impressive. My bets for her to win the Oaks at 20's and 16's are looking very very pretty right now (into 4's in places!!!) She is also in my main 10 to follow squad, so I was very happy with yesterday's showing.
I'll go straight in as I'm a bit strapped for time.

Sunday 29th April -

Very poor day yesterday, was let down by a fair few who I thought capable of much better. Today on paper looks pretty straightforward. But we all know it never truly turns out that way. This year's Oaks* winner Kissed makes her seasonal bow today so that will be interesting. Also in the following race the unraced half-brother of High Chapparal FATHER OF SCIENCE runs. (400) He is sired by Gallileo, so in fairness could well be a train! We'll see.
No E/w double today as only one horse made the criteria.

Friday 27th April -

Good Morning, not the best day yesterday. But with one or two fancies in the cancelled races it put pressure on the others to perform. It's always hard when the ground could be anything, and as we saw a fair bit yesterday it can simply be survival of the fittest. Hoping for something good today, and "The Fly" gets to redeem himself after getting caught out at Cheltenham. I'll just tap them out in a list as per, but I'll be at work later so any Q's tweet me!

Thursday 26th April -

Good morning, how we all doing? wet? Well yesterday was a shambles, let's be blunt. Punchestown was a bit of a joke really. I have my paddock spotters out looking for the horses wearing first time snorkels today! Sorry that was poor humour. When I list my bets I'm just going to do them as I have them written but I believe in the time it takes me to sort my life between selecting and publishing some of the races at Punchy have been cancelled, the chases? I think that only affects one in my e/w lucky so maybe I'll suggest one to stick in it's place.

Wednesday 25th April -

Another nice day yesterday, the double came in again, ok granted the prices weren't the best SP's 8/13 and 4/7 , but the BOG 8/13 and the early 11/10 made it a little tastier if you got on early. Thought for a moment we were going to get a nice double figure winner on the EW lucky in the flat race at Punchestown but it wasn't to be as Directors Forum struggled to find too much when questioned, but certainly one to take to nice season with a nice stiff test over hurdles and then onto chasing most likely. I'm going to dive in now as the wife has her web designer popping over any minute to work on her website so I'll get booted off the PC.

Windsor on a Monday night, summer must be on it's way! I'm actually reasonably encouraged by the cards today, I'll try to tweet some of the reasoning behind my selections later if I have time. I'm pushing out a bit today, I'll update the key to blog section shortly after publishing this. I will be disappointed if we can't make a profit today. That being said, it is a monday, it is early in the season on very fractious ground, so tread carefully, do NOT stake more than you are prepared to pay for the entertainment, and they will not all win, if they did I'd consider myself Harry Potter!!! A very rich Harry Potter. Lol. I'll crack on because there is a small boy tugging on my leg as I'm trying to type.

Good Morning, a decent day for the blog yesterday. Quite happy with one or two winners, it's makes the study worthwile, especially after a poor run. I'm not really sure where to go with today. I don't think there will be too many shocks today. I've chanced one or two decent priced runners so hopefully they'll give us a run, the Lucky 15 may as well be a win one today.

Morning, where do we go after yesterday. I really thought I was going to have a good day, and very much didn't! It's always demoralising when that happens, I expect a few stinkers on Mondays, Tuesdays etc... but when the racing is of a decent calibre it worries me when I can't find the winners. Oh well, I've had a look at today, a lot of alert horses today so hopefully they'll go well. We'll see what happens.

I had that awful moment today where I put up 2 horses on twitter and by the time I sat down to put my bets on the prices had shortened. I'm still on board. I'm not sure we've had too many clues for the opening classics, it was evident over the week that the earlier 2 year olds from last year are still a bit ahead of their later counterparts. The ground at Newmarket, as well as it holds up, was a little softer than good and will no doubt be much better in 2 weeks time. Roger Varian sends an interesting one into the handicap, 240 Newbury,  ALJAMAHEER, this one won his Yarmouth maiden pretty comfortably and the form from that race hasn't been shown up as too shabby. He currently sits at 20/1 for the 2000, and that could look good value if he wins as I expect him to today. We'll see.

TREBLE

GALWAY JACK 1710 SOUTHWELL NAP
A very interesting one switching to Beginners chase from Hunters, he was unfortunate to run into the machine Rumbury Grey last twice, but was well away from anything else on the first occasion and a 3 way go latest has seen both other rivals go out and win since. Price is pretty unthinkable at the moment but the tissue has it the other way around with the Vaughan horse so may drift a little towards the off. Any softening should suit this one further over his rival and would be a decent 50% bonus if doubled up with other fancies.
LADY ROSAMUNDE 1700 BATH NB
Less exposed than some in race and for the most part has been very consistent, trip sure to suit having won a lesser event over the distance. Cheekpieces applied for the first time and break not likely to hinder as she has run her race on all occasions.
PANJO BERE 1645 FONTWELL
Gary Moore was happy with the handicappers assesment of him at the turn of the year, since then unfortunately he hasn't run his race and the rating has dropped further accordingly. He is dropped in class here, in fact the lowest class of race for him since a course win in 2008, incidently one of two succesful runs on this track from only two visits. He is a decent price for an each way bet and doesn't need to be at his all time best to win this, if he was he'd probably lap a few of them.

Thursday April 19th -

Pretty poor day yesterday, the heavens opened, the ground bogged up and my selections became worthless. My NAP was very disappointing yesterday, luckily the other 2 from the treble came in which spared us lining up at the soup kitchen. My treble today comes exclusively from Tipperary, which is odd, but that's just how it has fallen. We'll see how we go today.
I don't have time to scribe assess all the craven runners as it's an early start at work for me today, sorry.

Wednesday 18th April -

The Flat arrives with a vengeance today, a solid card at Newmarket, competitive affairs at Beverley all supplemented by some decent jumps action from Cheltenham. It looks, on paper, to be a terrific day, and even the evening meetings at Kempton and Dundalk look interesting.
It's the Nell Gwyn Stakes today, a group 3 event for the 3 year old fillies and effectively a 1000 Guineas trial. I don't believe anything in this race today to be capable of winning the 1000 Guineas. A quick look down the market though.
PIMPERNEL - Al Zarooni / Dettori
A very good looking filly, I didn't see this one as Group class, and she may well have put me aside with her 2nd to Wading in the Group 2 Rockfel stakes but form has been far from encouraging out of that race so far. I think she could well have gotten closer to stablemate Gamilati in Dubai but the ride from the usually brilliant Barzalona was questionable.
RUSSELIANA - Stoute / Moore
2nd to Gamilati in the Cherry Hinton is her best form on offer but she negated that somewhat with a stinker in, officially, lower class on the next run.
STARSCOPE - Gosden / Buick
A comfortable C&D winner on debut late last year, a lot to find on official numbers but some decent judges think a fair bit of this filly. Bold statement by connections to throw her in here and the market represents that. She will have to step up but this isn't the strongest race if I am honest.
REGAL REALM - Noseda / Fortune
Began career with a lot of promise but became expensive to follow, landed a group 3 contest but was outclassed later in the year. Noseda's horses aren't in great nick at the moment and I'd have this one at your own risk.
SUNDAY TIMES - Chapple-Hyam / Quealley
Runner up in Group 1 Cheveley Park stakes, but well down when fancied for the Rockfel, I'm not sure there is much coincidence that her 2 poor runs have come within a week/fortnight of a very good run. She'd certainly make the shortlist for this for me.
LILY'S ANGEL - Fahey / Hanaghan
A very game, likeable filly. She never gives a bad run, apart from maybe her last one last year, when lets face it she had a busy schedule, especially compared to a lot of these. If I didn't like the Godolphin pair she'd make my three.
MINIDRESS - Al Zarooni / Barzalona
This one is the winner for me, every Godolphin horse is entered on it's own merits, there are no tactics no orders. The bookmakers/punters insist on making the Frankie selection shorter odds so the value always lies within the other coloured hats. Cracking debut effort, ran a bit green on step up in class but got close to some decent sorts. This is certainly winable and the jockey loves the Rowley Mile. And she's by Street Cry!!!
As for the rest I wouldn't ignore the Channon trio, his horses are running well at the moment and the top one NAYARRA won a decent prize in Italy, but she has to give away weight for that. but MUUAMARA like STARSCOPE is very much an unknown quantity.

So the Nell Gwyn for me is
1 - MINIDRESS
2 - SUNDAY TIMES
3 - PIMPERNEL

right onto todays selections

The Grand National = Marmite

You Love it or Hate it? I guess there is a case for that. Personally I love it, and I'm not talking from my pocket, I am a bookie by trade, yes, but I work for a global conglomerate in fact one of the biggest and most recognisable betting brands in the world. Thus said, my wages, bonus etc... are not affected in any way, shape or form by Grand National day itself. The reason I love it, is that for one day I can share my passion for horse racing with those who normally would not concern themselves with such. By 930am I had received 4 missed calls and numerous text messages, from people who i do not even converse with on a weekly basis, regarding tips for the national. I kept it simple I gave them all BecauseIcouldn'tsee and Sunnyhill Boy each way. So profit came their way. Now a lot has been said of the deaths. And granted the death rate has increased in recent years. But has the race become more dangerous? No. The simple fact is that the quality of he field has improved. You could see Saturday as they came round the last bend there were still 6/7 horses bang in there fighting for position. And eventually the closest finish for many, many years. I'm not going to discuss the virtues as to why Neptune Collonges won and Sunnyhill Boy was second, mainly because it was a fantastic race and brilliant spectacle as ever. But we lost Gold Cup winner Synchronised, and the much adored According to Pete. Should Synchronised have run? I'm not a vet, trainer, owner jockey, I don't know. Those guys know more than me, and there is no way he would have been allowed to if he wasn't right. Unprofessional moment, I don't actually have the facts in front of me, and there is so much fictional bial written that I can't be obliged to look it up, but I believe Synchronised dumped AP at around the 6th and then suffered the fatal fall at the 11th, whilst running loose. According to Pete was bought down and fatally injured on the second circuit. Both unprecedented accidents. I'm not saying it's ok to lose the life of a horse, but I'm also displacing fault/blame. The main reason the Grand National is so much more frantic of latter year is that the quality of the race has improved ten-fold, the days of sticking a pin in your daily rag pullout are long gone. These are all good horses who if avoiding trouble could well win the race, hence the battle to get to a position out of trouble. I think the only realistic answer is limiting the field to 30 perhaps. I don't think tampering with the fences is the answer, the horses already attack them at such a pace that problems are likely. Less congestion may well ease worries. The ban horseracing crowd need to get another hobby, these horses are treated better than the human beings that look after them and any worries about their welfare is misguided, misgiven and unwelcome. Again I've written a rambly blog to no real point but if you read it carefully there is one or two considerations inside. Have a nice day.

Tottenham Hotspur Special Edition

So much I want to say but 140 characters on twitter is nowhere near enough to get your point across fluently and correctly. The scoreboard last night at Wembley said Tottenham Hotspur 1 Chelsea 5, but the game I watched was in no way one side dominant over the other by the tune of 4 goals. I know you watched it but I'll run you through how I saw it. I will refer to Spurs as Us/We if nobody minds.
The game took some time to get going, but after around half an hour We sprung to life and took the upper hand. A goalline clearance by John Terry and Van Der Vaart's whipped ball in evaded Ade and Cech but connected with the upright. Unlucky Spurs. Then a moment of brilliance about 5 mins from Half time from the mercurial Didier Drogba. I thought Drogba was immense the entire game and his goal was a bit special. To concede a goal like that when you've not only been on top but unlucky to still be level is heartwrenching. It will have completely changed the mood in the dressing room at half time. I don't think we started the second half well, the goal looked likely but how it came was a disgrace. There is no way that Martin Atkinson could have seen that as a goal with little to no doubt, therefore benefit should be given to the defensive side, or that is the way I've always been informed it should be. His decision was worse than had he not given it if it had crossed the line in my opinion. To come back from 2 goals against a top side is near on impossible and effectively the game was over. We battled hard to get back into the game with Bales goal, but unfortunately the game was so open and the underperforming Gallas was picked out time and time again by Chelsea, there was only so much King could mop up for him. Credit to Chelsea, they were ruthless and took the chance they had to put us to the sword. The game could well have been very different had the goal not been given but heyho.
Now the biggest worry is the similarity this game posed to the Man City game at White Hart Lane. On that occasion we were on top and failed to make our chances count before Dzeko put one in off his knee, again a sterling fight by spurs before a city second on the stroke of half-time, we were beaten and proceeded to collapse to a 5-1 defeat.
The other issue is that we haven't played well since Harry stepped into court, bar the Newcastle game. I don't think January was helpful to us at all. We weakened our squad in January with key squad members going out on loan and bargain bin entities coming in, I understand that books have to be balanced but if those moves count towards costing us the multi million draw of Champions League football then a mistake has been made.
Harry Redknapp is a terrific man-manager, he tells the players how good they are and gets them to believe it. With this though comes elation when things are going well, but if you are a constantly told how good you are, yet results are suggesting something else it leads to a confusion in morale, and becomes very tough to pick yourself up.
I think sacking Harry Redknapp would be very much the wrong thing to do, a manager should only really be sacked for the following Bringing down the stature of the football club, bringing the football club into financial  trouble, behaving negatively in the name of the football club, and/or losing it's virtues. Harry has not done any of these, in fact he has returned the virtues of Tottenham Hotspur Football Club to White Hart Lane. We've had some managers in recent years who have served to do things their own way rather than the Spurs way, most notably Graham and Ramos. I'm not going to get carried away by how this season finishes. I recieved my first hand me down Spurs shit circa '87-'88, since that time we have finished very much mid table most seasons, Landed an Fa Cup and a League Cup, only recently, from about 2006ish have we began to truly drink at the Premier Leagues top table again, achieving Champions League status, winning the League Cup, and regular appearances in  the UEFA/Europa cups. A lowest realistically possible 6th place and an FA Cup semi final don't count in my book as a bad season. Okay yes it would be dissapointing when you consider where we were at Christmas.
I think the real turning point was the game at Eastlands on Jan 22, this was the day we went from Title contenders to battling for our Champions League place. The players looked dejected and defeated at the final whistle, after defeat from a last minute goal, scored by a player who shouldn't have been on the pitch. I think all the belief washed out of each and every player with that one single moment and it's been a very slippery slope since.
Where do we go from here? Well luckily our run in is kind, QPR, Blackburn, Bolton, Villa and Fulham. QPR is a must win game, they want points to help towards safety, as do Blackburn and Bolton. If we can take 9 points off these sides scrapping for their lives then Villa and Fulham should have nothing to play for by the time we meet them. We are in the unfortunate position of hoping for a home win at the Emirates on Saturday, I cannot believe I just typed that. I can't see Stoke getting the job done at St James' though, but hopefully us and the barcodes can move 5 points clear of Chelsea, who will have had 3 season defining games in a week.
I think over the summer we need to look at our transfer policy, I think there is better out there than Adebayor for the money that Man City will expect us to pay. I think we should aggressively fight to bring Eden Hazard to the Lane, he will adapt in the role that Van Der Vaart currently occupies, Rafa has been great but isn't getting any younger. We need cover for our full backs, Benny and Kyle have played far too many games this season and played through injuries at time. We need cover for Lennon and King, who when fit should be first team regulars but that is only about 30% of the season! We have Dawson and Kaboul but if one of them is injured there is nothing. Gallas is poor, Bassong is championship at best, the only hope I guess is the lad Caulker who is at Swansea but if they put in an offer to keep him he may well be tempted by a regular start. As for Lennon, we have Gio Dos Santos, for some reason Harry refuses to use him. I've not seen him put a foot wrong in a spurs shirt, he has played well in Carling Cup/Europa league games, and he really grasped the opportunity when sent on loan to my hometown club Ipswich. No Ipswich fan can understand how he doesn't get in the spurs side week in/week out, and neither can any Mexican football fan, the lad plays football with passion, pace and no end of ability. He scored a hattrick for Barcelona for goodness sake! I get that when Lennon is fit he plays but when he isn't there is no excuse.
Anyway I have really rambled here and probably haven't put any point across at all. I was devastated by last nights proceedings, I'll move on, it's something I have learned to do throughout my years as a Tottenham and England football fan. I just hope the players can on Saturday, and I really really really hope the Adel Taarabt £1 million sale doesn't bite Harry up the arse.
If you are still reading well done for staying intersted, ha ha, but you'll be pleased to know this is the end.

My NB today is one I've been very much looking forward to returning to action. ROSSLYN CASTLE, this colt looked greener than grass painted with green paint on debut yet got it together to finish within a length to some useful looking sorts, the step up in trip should suit and he is one of my horses to follow over the course of this flat season.

Good Morning, I hope everyone enjoyed the Grand National, I did. Despite getting done on the line for what would have been my second ever winner of the race! My blog is going to go through a bit of transition over the next 2 weeks and will be reviewed over that period, but it may well drop down to a limited races effort rather than every race, this takes up a lot of my time, and can cause me to miss winners due to using shortcuts. We'll see what happens but I want to keep the blog to the best quality I can make it and maybe quality over quantity may be the solution, it usually is!

Thursday 12th March - Aintree Day 1

Morning, an abysmal day for the blog yesterday, the NAP/NB both came in though so hopefully systematic punters came out okay. Aintree starts today, historically I've done okay at Aintree. Not in the National itself, in fact I think Don't Push It is the only winner of the race I've ever backed, but overall I tend to do okay. I'm just going to jot a few thoughts down then you'll get my lists as usual.

1400 LIVERPOOL HURDLE

Not too much to write here really, I don't see any point in trying to take on BIG BUCKS, and with the "dead 8" in effect you'll struggle to get any sort of sizeable Each Way bet on. SMAD PLACE did enough at Cheltenham to suggest he's the best shout for a forecast, and you'll probably get somewhere between 4/6-evens on that eventuality and it's probably the best bet.

1435 MATALAN JUVENILE HURDLE

Nicholls and Walsh won this race last year, and in my eyes have the strongest hand again today with PEARL SWAN. There is no doubt that the yard was not having the best of times at Cheltenham yet this one proved to be an eyecatcher when staying on only to fall, having been struggling for quite a way.

1505 BETFRED BOWL CHASE

RIVERSIDE THEATRE is the one to beat, and I believe it to be possible, he has only tried 3m once and got beat, albeit by Long Run, but this is further and there are horse who have gotten the trip. I kept trying to find an argument for MEDERMIT because I like the horse, but I think RT has his measure. I'm going with BURTON PORT who ran Long Run very close at Newbury before a decent run in the Gold Cup where essentially he just failed to get home. This trip is slighty shorter than the GC and potentially easier to win. I think Burton just has the experience to get there and the leg up for AP is surely a positive wherever you are. I've had a little niggling all morning for DIAMOND HARRY, so I've backed him each way at 16/1. I don't think he'll win, maybe not even second but if he runs his race and one or two others don't 16/1 could look massive.

1540 JOHN SMITHS FOXHUNTER CHASE

GWANAKO is head and shoulders the best horse in this, but one thing bothers me, since winning here in the Topham in 2008, he has failed to complete on each return. Horses are very intelligent animals and he'll soon realise where he is. MY WAY DE SOLZEN looked very competent when landing a hunter at Hereford last year, and it wold appear he's been pretty prolific on the pointing scene also. I'd take him to win if he's fit and ready. I've had a couple of Each Way bets, I thought Lucy Wadham's ELEAZAR ran well behind Barbers Shop at Fakenham but made a couple of mistakes in this class at Cheltenham. I'm not sure this is as strong as the Cheltenham version and we could well get a run for our money. Also FRESH AIR AND FUN impressed me last time out, and hasn't been unplaced in a hunter chase to date. He also ran 5th here in a Grand Sefton and that could provide useful experience of the fences.

1615 RED RUM HANDICAP CHASE

A very open race, it tends to do you well to look at the Grand Annual at Cheltenham and carry any form over, I've had each way bets on the horses that finished 6th and 7th in that race, DE BOITRON and ASTRACAD, but nothing would surprise me winning this that is how open it looks.

1650 BETFRED MANIFESTO NOVICES CHASE

A 5 runner affair but for me the most interesting race of the day, throw a blanket over the runners you'll not get a lot sticking out. AL FEROF has the edge in the ratings war, 1 mistake in the Arkle finished his race, but he'll have more room for error here, hopefully he won't make any though. He is my win bet and I'm leaving it at that. I'd expect Ruby to put him out front and try to put the field to bed with a superior round of jumping. 2 with the potential to really show up as stars in this are CRYSTAL BONUS and PEPITE ROSE, the former was progressing nicely until an abcess forced him to pull up in the Jewson. The latter could be anything, she has just cantered through her races and up the rankings and we have no idea truly how good she'll be until she has a race, she'll get one today. MENORAH I think needs a quick race, and he might get one here, jumping has let him down but like i said earlier there is more room for error in this than a frantic Arkle. ALASI showed up very well when placed behind Quevega in the mares race at Cheltenham. She will
enjoy the trip but has a bit to find with these, although has every right to progress as required.

1715 SILVER CROSS HANDICAP HURDLE

GULLINBURSTI is the favourite here, but Emma Lavelles charge is rising in weights and classes despite not winning last twice. OUR FATHER from David Pipe didn't show up as expected at Cheltenham and I think is worth another try on what he has achieved. My Each Way bet is HOUBLON DES OBEAUX, granted he has it all to do from this mark, but will enjoy the ground and the fact that Aidan Coleman (who incidentally is red hot at present) has chosen to ride this one drags my attention.

Right todays lists.

Wednesday 11th April -

Ooh, my blog has changed, well blogger has anyway, it's all a bit confusing, change begins to get scary when you get to my age. lol. Hopefully it will look the same when I post.
Yesterday was pretty standard all round, I think we just about broke even.
Hopefully today will be better but it's a very tricky looking day so tread carefully.

Sunday 8th April - Happy Easter

I have to be quick today, I have to fill the garden with eggs for the kids, then I have a huge match this morning against my old club, its going to be emotional. I can only apologise for yesterday, I saw where I had gone wrong for the day within a couple of races, and the setback of tipping/betting as i do is you cannot change up when you spot these things, it's stick only no twist. Luckily Sue Smith's horses are in terrific form and she landed us a 12/1 plus a late Will Buick double at Kempton just kept us hovering around the breadline. Hopefully I've ironed out the creases today, and I've posted one on twitter that I believe to be grossly overpriced. Enjoy.

Friday 6th April - Good Friday

No racing today, wow it's almost like a holiday. Yesterday was very poor until a late flourish kept dignity intact. We got roughly a 60% return on the Lucky 15 so not too bad. I made a grave error yesterday, I used to put all my alert horses on but have tried to filter one per race yet I hit a 1-2 in a race yesterday, and you guessed it, put up the second! It's nice to have this day off as the upcoming week will be pretty busy, with bank holiday racing on Monday leading to Aintree's Grand National festival Thursday through Saturday. I've picked out my Overs and BTTS bets for today's footy, you can have them.

Pretty poor day yesterday, the Lucky made a small profit, and we picked up 5 relatively short winners. Hoping for a bit better today.
I'll add my Golf BETS at the end, they are by no means tips because I know next to zero about golf, all my bets are solely based on numbers that are available to me and, hopefully, potential value. If I err with caution though that in my life I have had 3 winning golfers!

Monday 2nd April -

Without doing the maths I'd suggest that it was roughly a breakeven day yesterday. NAP winner is always nice. The Lucky fell about 3pts short of money back, Placepot was shocking. So I've decided to set the level at a 50% place %age before I do a Placepot, I think that's fair. And the Overs bet on the footy was let down by 2 goals, the respective 2-0's at the Sports Direct Arena and Celtic Park. So onto today. It's Monday so don't bet big.
