Monday 10 November

Morning all, I have 7 for you today. Another 2-2 draw this weekend too.

DIVINE PORT 115 CARLISLE
As a bumper performer he always looked like he needed something extra, whether it be in trip or simply obstacles. He gets the obstacles today, if he's in the mix at the business end he'll certainly put up a good scrap

ORIENTAL SPLENDOUR 215 KEMPTON
Was sent off favourite last time out and ran a respectable 3rd. Dropped 3lb for that and therefore given a massive chance here

ASUNCION 235 CARLISLE
put up better than average form in France, potentially has looked outpaced last twice and maybe the extra 3 furlongs today might help. Handicapper has certainly thrown her a bone if so

SHOULDAVBOUGHTGOLD 330 CARLISLE
A solid stayer and presumably, going, by results, a solid chaser. Bidding to shake off a run of seconditis he beat 3 of these last time out and no weight differentials suggest that there'll be a similar story today

INSIDE KNOWLEDGE 340 SOUTHWELL
Spatterings of decent form, the best probably his 3rd in a selling handicap 3 starts ago, a result which prompted the handicapper to add weight which has been relented for today. Price reflects consitancy, or lack thereof, rather than ability for me.

NEW IDENITY 450 KEMPTON
First 2 runs read very well, but next 2 when fancied to win not so much. Connections hoping change of surface can change fortune

SALVADO 550 KEMPTON
Handed a mark of 73 after maiden win at today's trip on AW in Ireland. Will go off 15lb lower than that today. Has positive comparable form with Bubbly Bailey and Time Medician, 2nd and 3rd in betting, so represents an Each Way chance

HAPPY PUNTING

Friday 7 November 2014

Friday 7 November

4 for today.

OUT DO 610 WOLVERHAMPTON
A decent race on a Friday at Wolverhampton. The selection has won on his only previous run on an artificial surface, and quite cosily too. A solid win in the St Wilfrid probably sets the standard here

DANSEUR DE FEU 700 DUNDALK
When the layers have it as a 2 horse race, it's often fun to look at where the bookies will most be afraid in what they deem a bad each way race. Effectively you could back more than 1 each way and end up in profit if only 1 snuck in third. Now i think this C&D winning filly represents that value. Taking the claimers 10lb into account she is a stone better off than she was when putting up a very bold effort here last week

HOWAYA HURRICANE 830 DUNDALK
This one ran her best race in some time last time out, a race which the winner and second have both ran well since, and one from behind has placed since too. The handicapper seems to have thrown her a massive bone in dropping the mark by half a stone and with one of the real emerging talents of Irish racing on her back she should be involved.

SHARJAH 900 DUNDALK
In terrific form at present and well drawn to get his own way again. The third place horse from his recent win came out and won here on Wednesday. 40% win, 80% place, over course and distance

Wednesday 5 November 2014

Thursday 6th November

Morning, 4 for today.

MAGICAL MOON 1255 THURLES
A reasonable traveller over hurdles which should help him over the bigger obstacles today. He's met a few of these before and is on favourable terms so hopefully he'll put up a big run for us.

CLAUDE CARTER 100 MUSSELBURGH
Put up a couple of decent efforts recently although most recent not so good but there was a good one in that race. Has pull in weights with a couple here, including one of the main protagonists and therefore, for me, represents a solid each way chance at least.

LARTETA 150 FAKENHAM
At present it appears this one a better hurdler than chaser, but he's been dropped to a mark at which he was very consistant over the hurdles and has certainly been given a chance by the handicapper to get involved.

SEARCHLIGHT 710 WOLVERHAMPTON
This is a massive drop in class for Searchlight, and to be fair without looking like winning he's done okay in class 2s. Before the 3 straight defeats at that level he had 2 straight wins in class 5, which again is better form than this basement grade stuff

Good Luck all, happy punting

Thursday 30 October 2014

Thursday 30 October

Not the best of efforts from the selection yesterday. We have to move on. I have 2 today, both at Kempton this evening.

MURADIF 600 KEMPTON (7/2 Bet365, Paddy Power)

Been progressing since switched to AW nurseries, dropped slightly in trip from last run which should suit, bumped into a good one last time out. Big chance here.

SANTEFISIO 630 KEMPTON (15/2 Paddy Power, William Hill)

Been a while since a win, but Course and Distance record reads 135134. Handicapper been relenting on the weights as struggling from lofty mark in class 2, ran with credit in defeat back in 3 last time out, staying on well to come home a never nearer 5th over a sorter trip. All that into account this is pretty favourable for him today.

Good Luck

Wednesday 29 October 2014

Wednesday 29 October

Morning all.

I've got one for you today.

EXTRATERRESTRIAL 330 NOTTINGHAM (12/1 Lads, 365, Hills, Sky, Boyles)

Richard Fahey's charge is the wise old man of this race, at 10 years old, in fact the 2 above him in the betting market are both once raced 3 year olds. He has placed on 2 of his 3 visits to the track, the time he didn't was the back end of 2012 from a mark he hasn't been near since. Solid second in similar event at Goodwood last time out. Trainer has saddled 10 winners in the last fortnight.

Good Luck

Friday 24 October 2014

Friday 24 October

A nice winner found on Wednesday, and a 3rd at a solid price. Sadly the other horse was barely sighted, but the odds of the winner more than covered the 3 bets. I have a few to bounce up today, hopefully there'll be a winner or two amongst them.

LOSTOCK HALL 120 DONCASTER (7/2 Victor and Coral)

Improved with each start and looks to be a fair mark on handicap debut, with 2nd and 4th from his maiden win scoring next time up. Falls into the solid "top weight in a nursery" system and due to rise in the weights in the near future.

VEGAS REBEL 320 NEWBURY (100/30 888, 3/1 Widely)

Scored comfortably on first look at soft ground last time up, and gets similar conditions today. This will be trickier for sure, but I think this one is generously priced.

WIESENTRAUM 340 FAKENHAM (11/4 888, Betway, 5/2 Fred, SJ)

Firstly, it's rare for a Fakeham card to go by without Lucy Wadham registering a chase winner, secondly this one has visited the track twice, registering a win and a second by a head. Also he has been raised 7lb, but for a 14 length demolition of a orse he was only getting a pound from that's probably fair.

Now I have 3 at Dundalk tonight.

STOICHKOV 610 DUNDALK (20/1 PaddyPower)

Right, you have to take a bit of time to ignore the 458480 next to his name. Fundamentally they are irrelevant figures as the only one on this surface, taking jockey claims in, was off a mark 9lb higher. He's a regular here, 27 of his 45 starts. His last win here came over C&D in February off today's exact mark of 53, this will be the first time since that he's raced off this mark. I can't tell you much about the jockey as he's only had 1 ride, but that was very nearly a winner in an apprentice race at Navan.

MISS TEMPLE 740 DUNDALK (11/4 Hills, 365)

Handicap debut for this one, last visit here doesn't offer up the most inspiring form on face value but deeper investigation finds a Group 3 winner, a 20k handicap winner, and a few decent efforts in solid races. Showed pace but didn't quite get home over 6f last time so try at 5 is far from unjustified.

RUSSIAN SOUL 810 DUNDALK (7/2 Victor, Coral, Boyle)

Class animal, only twice finished out of the first 2 on AW, both at Meydan, one of which was the Group 1 Golden Shaheen. For me this is a 2 horse race between the selection and Sir Maximilian. Both rated 108, carrying same weight, one is 7/2 the other as short as 6/4. Then take that the 7/2 is a Group 3 winnr, the 6/4 a listed winner, the 7/2 has a record of 3 wins 4 seconds from 9 AW starts, the 6/4 has 2 3rds (one of which unplaced in 7 runner affair) both in class 4 handicaps at Kempton. The value angle is a no brainer, and for me Russian Soul is the better horse.

Good Luck

Wednesday 22 October 2014

Wednesday 22 October

There's one or two I fancy chancing my arm at today. Hopefully they'll perform.

JILLANAR 200 NEWMARKET

No discredit in maiden runs, looks on a useful mark on handicap debut. Trip should pose no issue and ground should be fine with the Pivotal line in the breeding.

PRINCESS GLAMOUR 425 NAVAN

Nothing consistent enough to worry about in this race, but the booking of Pat Smullen to ride this filly jumps off the page. Her mark has dropped considerably and could be a big player at a big price.

ALL ABOUT ALFIE  500 NAVAN

In good form this year and ran okay last time in a race that looks to be working out well. Worth a play at double figure odds.

Sunday 19 October 2014

Sunday October 19

Morning all, no blog yesterday as Saturday mornings are far too busy for me. If I had done one, based on the criteria I have currently been using, we'd have gotten a NR, a 2nd, and 2 losers. So you missed out on nothing.

RAAMZ 130 BATH

Just touched off last time out in a race where the winner has won again, the 4th has won, and the 3rd has twice placed. Young claimer Cam Hardie has won 3 times at the track this year.

HEADLINE NEWS 305 BATH

Has run with credit in higher class races last twice, drop today should put him right in the mix.

SEE AND BE SEEN 335 BATH

Consistent stayer, 2 from 6 at the track, last time out he beat the Cesarewitch winner.

VIOLETS BOY 500 KEMPTON

Powell Snr and Jnr team up on 'arry Redknapp's gelding. Not been disgraced in his run of 2nds, in truth he's been improving each run, there just seems to be 1 better each time.

Good Luck

Thursday 16 October 2014

Friday 17 October

Morning, a terrific return to action with a nice profit, less than a length from the jackpot too. I'll keep with the same format for a while and see how we go.

IVAWOOD 255 NEWMARKET (4/5 widely available)

Potentially the class act in this field. Will she handle the soft ground? If she's a genuinely great horse then she will, the real decent ones can go on anything. There's no rain due in the area today, so it's only going to improve anyway. The race isn't without competition, there's group winners lining up, but on official numbers she has half a stone in hand.

LUCIDA 325 NEWMARKET (13/8 Victor and Fred)

A neck away from becoming a Group 1 winner in the Moyglare, she looked a class act in winning the Rockfel. For me, she should be odds on like Ivawood and her win on yielding ground at Naas should dispel any ground worries.

BRETON ROCK 435 NEWMARKET (6/1 widely available)

Already a Group 2 winner, thrives on softer ground, he's at least placed on 12 of 13 starts, winning 7, 5 over todays trip from 8 attempts. A solid bet.

SILVERY MOON 525 HAYDOCK (20/1 Bet365)

Returned from a break and didn't do a lot, should come on for that. Tim Easterby's charge has landed a handicap over this trip on soft ground. He holds a few of these through indirect formlines, albeit based on races from prior seasons. Chancey but an each way price.

Good Luck

A little reward for my readers.

I've researched something, and I'm quite excited by it. Hopefully you will be too.
I was looking for popular scores in the Premier League that could be profitable to back blind, and have potentially stumbled across a gem. So, what I propose is this. I'll start by explaining it in points and then translate that to cash at the end so you might be able to see the value to yourself.
Back every Premier League game each week to finish 2-2. The odds are very rarely anything different to 14/1, more frequently higher than lower. Back singles at 10pts. So 10 games at 10 pts=100 points. Also back the doubles for a point. In 10 games, you'll need to stake for 45 doubles. So the total layout is 145 points each week/matchday. A single 2-2 would return 150 points, 2 games would result in a 225 point return from a double. As you should be able to work out, 1 2-2 draw would make you a 5 point profit.
Now, here's the evidence, week by week.

Matchday 1
Leicester v Everton and West Brom v Sunderland both finished 2-2.
So you've 2 singles at 150 and a double at 225, a return of 525, and importantly a profit of 380.

Matchday 2
Just Everton v Arsenal this week.
So a 150 return, profit of 5. Total profit 385.

Matchday 3
No 2-2 draws. 145 loss. But we're still 240 to the good.

Matchday 4
Here's a bumper.
Arsenal v Man City, Hull v West Ham and Sunderland v Spurs all finished 2-2.
3 singles at 150, and 3 doubles at 225. Total return of 1125, 980 profit, and 1220 cumulative profit for the season.

Matchday 5
Newcastle v Hull and QPR v Stoke
Another 525 return, add 380 profit giving us 1600 now.

Matchday 6
None 145 loss, but we have a buffer. Profit sits at 1455.

Matchday 7
Leicester v Burnley
Swansea v Newcastle
Another 525, 380 and total bank now 1835.

This is up to date. The profit made so far would cover there being not a single 2-2 draw for the next 12 matchdays.
Obviously you want to know how the points work. Well effectively you have to ensure your stakes for the single is 10 times that for the double. In easiest terms at £1 per point, you'd be £1835 up, but you would be laying out £145 every weekend, not for the faint hearted. We could make it a more working man's bet and say 20p per point. So you'd stake 10x£2 singles, and 45x20p doubles. A layout of £29 per week. Your profit to date still a respectable £367.
If that ratio of 2-2 draws per gameweek (10 games in 7 weeks) were to continue, strictly 1 every week, 2 every 3 weeks. Obviously some weeks you'll get none, and we might get another bumper with 3, but at the ratio the projected profit from matchdays 8 to 38 would be somewhere around 4200 points. So at our working man's staking suggestion £840 in your pocket at the end of the season. I'll continue to monitor and update in a few weeks time.
Any questions, you know where to find me.

Thursday 16 October

Hi, it's been a while. Truth be told I haven't really been feeling it lately, I've still been having a bet of course but the sheer work of preparing selections I feel strong enough about to share was uninviting, For some reason today I fancied it, so hopefully myself and anyone out there who still fancied reading this can be rewarded. I'll put up 4, potentially a Lucky 15/Yankee if that's your thing.

ROGUE DANCER 250 WINCANTON (11/4 Betbright, 5/2 w/ more well known brands)

Been in good form since return from break in the summer, will handle the trip fine. Unlucky last time out when a narrow second to the decent Abbeygrey who has dotted up again in higher class since.

WHAT A GOOD NIGHT 300 UTTOXETER (6/4 365, PP, Hills)

Taking a chance here after a long break, during which he has moved from Twiston Davies to Skelton. On best form this mark gives him a massive chance, albeit that best form isn't very frequent. Yard is going well and horse should probably have 10lb in hand potentially. Worth the shot at odds against.

GLENNTEN 410 BRIGHTON (12/1 BetVictor and McBookie!)

Due to go up 2lb for decent 3rd over C&D in similar conditions last time out. Still looking for a first turf win but certainly showed last time that he's not without a chance. Should be an each way play at worse really and this race hardly contains the most consistent animals.

JAYO TIME 420 WINCANTON (2/1 Betbright, 15/8 elsewhere)

Grand National winning trainer Dr Newland has picked this one up from Ireland, where he ran with credit in solid looking races. Chris Ward, who has 20% Strike rate for the trainer, takes off a useful 5lb to offset any difference in weight between the UK and Ire handicap marks.

Fingers crossed, good luck all.

POPESWOOD 710 WINDSOR

Potentially somewhat exposed but that gives us a little pointer in truth. He has been doing his best work late and was unlucky in defeat last time out, he extra furlong, on visual evidence, should suit him and he could get off the mark today. Worth noting that he has beaten 2nd fav Divine Law and has 4lb better terms today.

Thursday 7 August 2014

The Barclays, Nationwide, Coca Cola...whatever

After the ominous header to this blog I should probably state that this is a preview of sorts for the, now titled, Skybet Football League. It won't be enriched with stats, or probably anything vaguely interesting, it will merely be my opinion on a few things and where I'd be putting my money.

THE CHAMPIONSHIP

Every year this league appears to get more competitive. Favouritism is currently split between Cardiff and Derby. It's worth noting that the last pre-season favourite to oblige in this league were Manchester City in 2002! In fact, 5 of the last 6 winners have been double figure odds (12/1-18/1 range)
Sides relegated from the Premier League often find this league harder than they'd expect I guess, that and the upheaval of players who obviously wish to remain in the top flight make it tough. I think of the 3 that came down Fulham are best equipped to bounce back, the 11 million signing of Ross McCormack is a huge statement, he will guarantee goals at this level and Scott Parker brings invaluable experience to the heart of the pitch and ability higher than this level. There's been murmurs from released players that the manager work them too hard, but you look at Fulham's side last season and feel if they had worked hard in the first place they wouldn't have been relegated. I don't think they'll win the league but Victor and Fred offer a very generous 10/3 about them getting promoted.
My choice of the winner is Wigan. Once Europe and Owen Coyle were out of the way, to me they looked the best side in the league. Jordi Gomez departure is a tough one to take but former Barcelona trainee Oriel Riera could add goals, he got 13 last year in La Liga for relegated Osasuna. Uwe Rosler appears a very good manager and a Brentford player under his charge stated that everything he bought to that club was Premier League standard. When Wigan rubbed shoulders with Premier League opposition last year they looked far from out of place, beating Man City and drawing with Arsenal. For me they should be the class act and 10/1 was accepted graciously.
Other contenders have to include Blackburn, they lost just 4 games in the 2nd half of the season last year, and for some reason no one has relieved them of the services of Jordan Rhodes who has scored 122 goals in the last 5 seasons! Bournemouth are an interesting option, Eddie Howe is Mr Bournemouth and he brings an attacking flair to the south coast side. Strikers Yann Kermorgant (9 in 16 from January) and Callum Wilson (21 in 37 for Coventry) should be prolific and the Cherries could easily find themselves improving on last years highest ever finish of 10th and even flirting with the Playoffs. Brighton for me will do well to reach the playoffs for a third year running, the guy in charge here changes his managers more often than Daniel Levy and the sale of Leonardo Ulloa is a big blow. Cardiff, a circus act, they'll have to hope for a steady start or they could well be looking up at a number of sides they'd expect to be above given stature. Adam Le Fondre is a good signing, as is David Stockdale but defensively they will be poor. They've sold Steven Caulker who was streets ahead of the rest and to be fair, he's not really that good. Derby were excellent under Steve McClaren last term, but they should have gone up automatically, they blew it and ended up losing the playoff final too despite looking far the better side. Those sort of things can crush a mentality and you'd fear they'll need delivering on the line to succeed this year. Ipswich Town, keeping David McGoldrick fit is their main priority. They will be a solid unit as you'd expect from a Mick McCarthy side but goals are vital and when DM was injured last year they struggled to find them. Norwich should do okay, Lewis Grabban arriving from Bournemouth will see goals go in, but the outgoing Snodgrass will remove a little creativity. Last i heard they were close to bringing in Gary O'neil who would add vital experience and if they have the resolve to keep hold of Nathan Redmond then they'll be contenders. Sadly they don't have a manager, why they got rid of Chris Hughton when they did was just crazy, and this Neil Adams character hardly lit any fires, i'm not sure he even sparked a match! That wipes them off my list to win the league.
I'd expect the league winner to come from one of those sides, but this is football, anything can happen.

WIGAN to win the league 10/1
FULHAM to get promoted 10/3

Top Scorer
Lewis Grabban (Norwich) 20/1
Yann Kermorgant (Bournemouth) 50/1

Handicap
Bournemouth

LEAGUE 1

A side in single figure odds has triumphed 4 of last 6 years, which suggests that this could finally be the year for Sheffield United. There's still some 11/2 about. They looked like the side they should be once Nigel Clough got them going, moving from bottom 4 to Top 7 between January and May. Expect a big challenge from Leyton Orient, they've signed Championship players in a bid to improve on last years 3rd place finish. Peterborough could well improve on last years 6th, they are a side that always score and this year Posh fans may well be left thinking they've signed Gareth Bale.
I have it between these 3, and on the handicap i've backed Notts County. They finished pretty well last year when Shaun Derry took over and they've bought in experienced heads like Roy Carroll, Alan Smith and Hayden Mullins who have plenty experience at the highest level.

SHEFFIELD UTD to win league 11/2
PETERBOROUGH to get promoted 7/2

Handicap
Notts County

LEAGUE 2

Playoff runners up Burton have added some steady additions and they are probably the strongest side at home in the league. Bury have strengthened their squad, spending money including on the market leader in the top scorer market. Mansfield had a solid season last year, finishing 11th and I've seen a stat somewhere suggesting that the average improvement from 1st to 2nd season in the league is just over 5 places, that could lift them to 5th/6th and make them a bet for promotion at 8/1. Southend had the best defence in the league last year and the permanent arrival of Lee Barnard who is better than this level and the  loan of Shaquile Coulthirst should add a strike force to be reckoned with. Finally York City who were the in form side going into the playoffs but fell sadly short, failing to score.
A further word on Coulthirst, he's the yound lad that bagged a hattrick away to Barcelona in a youth game with Spurs. His loan to Leyton Orient was cut short by injury after scoring from the bench on his debut. Upon recovery he was loaned to Torquay at this level scoring twice in 5 starts. That ratio alone would see him pushing 20 goals this season and playing in a better team, barring injury or a loan recall that could easily be superceded.

SOUTHEND to win league 18/1
MANSFIELD to be promoted 8/1

COULTHIRST top goalscorer 25/1 (currently only available at StanJames)

Good luck however you choose to play, and enoy. The football is back this weekend, just say that out loud....it sounds good, doesnt it?

I'll have a premier league preview up sometime next week.

GEORGE CINQ 300 AYR
Micheal Bell doesn't send many to Ayr, in fact his record (i believe for the last 5 years? I'm going by the RP site) is 3 winners from 11 runners. This horse ran well in 3rd over today's trip last time out. Handicapper has eased another pound and Jamie Spencer crossing the wall has to be a positive.

FORREST FLYER 330 AYR
It would appear that course specialist Jim Goldie wants to win this race with 3 of the 8 entries. This horse has notched up 6 of his 8 career wins here, 4 over today's trip. Most of those victories have come off marks in the 60s and he's given a big chance off 57 today.

MUHARRER 530 AYR
Given a good ride to win last time out and although this will be tougher off 7lb higher, conditions look ideal. He's posted some decent runs when soft is in the going description. He doesn't fall into NAP/Nb material for me because there is little value in the price, but that's often the case with LTO winners.

ODDYSEY 750 WINDSOR
Lower than last winning mark, posted an improved run last time suggesting she's finding her form. Richard Hughes is a solid booking at this course for a trainers who is sending her a very long way, I'm sure it's not just for the Victoria Sponge.

HOLY ANGEL 910 PONTEFRACT
An eyecatcher in defeat last time, top course trainer sends out quickly. Versatile on ground so won't worry about any give. With a clear run, this one is a big chance at a relatively big price.

Good Luck and Happy Punting

Absolutely horrific day yesterday. Just the 2 winners and neither at a price to cover a single loser. I have 12 today, hoping for better, it needs to be. Lets hope we can pinch some off the bookies to pay for Oaks/Derby weekend.

Sunday 18 May

Finally some winners, 1 in the main bets after a string of seconds and 3 down below at respectable prices. I only have 2 today. 1 I'm keen on, and 1 in with a chance, as they say.

MARINERO 515 LIMERICK
Conquered the useful Germany Calling in PTP before putting up decent figures in defeat on first 2 bumper starts. Confirmed favouritism next time out at Fairyhouse, beating a well respected newcomer in the process. The booking of leading amateur Patrick Mullins is quite the scoop at this level.

THE HOUSEKEEPER 345 LIMERICK

Saturday 17 May

Morning all. Both main bets finished second yesterday. Frustrating. The less said about the rest the better I'd say, it was a daft idea. Right today I have 2 main again, and I'll pop down some with a chance. I have a couple of newcomers to look at today and potentially chuck into notebooks and a little footy treble for you.

ZEELA 215 THIRSK
Sets the standard here after a decent run on debut in a maiden that has produced a winner and a second from the field so far. Any improvement at all makes it difficult to see this one beat with the virtue of experience and nothing that jumps off the page in the field.

PINZOLO 405 NEWMARKET
Continued his progression last time out, after a blip in Group company on hopeless ground. He put away stablemate Sudden Wonder on debut, who has gone on to place in a Derby Trial this season. I don't know if this one can get that good but he certainly appears the type to have a little more about him than we've already seen.

Friday 16 May

Morning all. I've had a crack at all the races today. First I'll give my main selections across then I'll list.

TAC DE BOISTRON 245 YORK
Still seemingly progressing, even at 7 years old. Won the Sagaro last month very impressively and a repeat of that form will see him victorious here. Drying ground a slight concern.

PERSONAL OPINION 410 NEWBURY
Win last time out was visually quite impressive, 8lb to overcome back on grass but natural progression should see him improve enough to take this.

Thursday 8th May

Morning, an excellent day yesterday. 2/3 main selections obliged and 2 down the page also at decent odds. You'll hear no grumbles here for a few days. I have 5 up the top today, and then a further 6 from the notebook. If it can be half as productive as yesterday I'll be happy.

STRICTLY SILVER 145 CHESTER
A poor winter on the AW has seen his mark drop to one that he proved he was perfectly capable at last term. Excuses were given for penultimate effort and every chance he needed a blow out at Newmarket on Saturday. His Suffolk Stakes run was by no means bad to be fair, and the tremendously inform Kieren Fallon maintains the ride.

SOLARMAITE 155 SOUTHWELL
Carrying a 6lb penatly for an absolute demolition job last time out. If he's still in that frame of mind then 6lb isn't enough. The way he won last week you'd probably need to add a fridge to stop him. Obviously he's a horse, a class 6 horse at that so every chance he won't be in the same frame of mind. Worth a look though.

MUTEELA 315 CHESTER
Unbeaten filly. On her last run she visually looks classier than what she's running in. Draw is a concern based on her last run but if she gets a nice break then she'll be in with a massive shout. Looks good value for the rise in weights, a progressive animal, should run really well.

MAY'S BOY 540 CARLISLE
He's done okay in 3 starts over hurdles so far. Rated at peak in the 70s, touching 80s on the flat suggests he's possibly got another 10-15lb improvement in him in this sphere. There's a potential hotpot from the McCain yard to deal with but I'm convinced the value lies within this selection.

DIXIE HIGHWAY 650 CLONMEL
Vying for favouritism on the exchanges. This son of Jeremy gave a solid account of himself on his last start leading home the also rans after trouble in running. I can see this one as a hurdling prospect in time and I think he has what it requires to travel into contention here today.

The others

PARTY ROYAL 145 CHESTER
TELESCOPE 215 CHESTER
SCORELINE 225 SOUTHWELL
STIRABOUT 550 CLONMEL
BRADLEY 710 CARLISLE
BURRENBRIDGE LODGE 820 CLONMEL

Good Luck and Happy Punting

Wednesday 7th May

Morning all, how are we?
I'll give you my 3 main bets, then some others. See how we go.

CHEERIO SWEETIE 145 CHESTER
She comes in with a 9lb swing for a length defeat to Mukhmal, add that to the plum draw in 1 and she looks a solid chance. I think hailing from a more fashionable stable may well have seen her odds on here so 2/1 is decent value. David Evans could well see a 1-2 here also with stablemate Charlies Star a danger drawn 3 with Chester specialist Franny Norton on board.

PRINCE OF STARS 350 CHESTER
Anyone who follows breeding has been telling anyone who'll listen that the Sea The Stars progeny will leap on at 3. This one had an ordinary debut albeit in the Wood Ditton but the yard has an excellent record in this race. Tricky draw to overcome but I feel this horse could well be the class animal lining up.

HEAVY METAL 410 BRIGHTON
The outsider of 4, this horse was rated in the hundreds not even a year ago. What a fall from grace. A Group 2 winner as a 2yo, his first win came in a maiden here. The resurgent Kieren Fallon, whose stock seems to rise and fall like bookies shares during FOBT debates lately, gets the leg up. There's no question that the horse is well in on historic form, just whether he has any love for the game left. I hope so.

The others (forgive any bad draws, they are simply notebook horses who should be fit)

Saturday 3rd May

Good Morning, it's Guineas weekend!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! There's a monster Scoop 6 up for grabs, I'll share it with you, it's fine. I've tweeted a straight line scoop this morning. So the tips aren't really firing at the moment, my job is to rectify that. I have 9 tips today, hopefully they'll give us a run at least, and if we're really lucky maybe the first returns of the month too! So let's get to it.

ADMIRABLE DUQUE 145 GOODWOOD
CIRCUMVENT 205 NEWMARKET
MAGIC CITY 255 GOODWOOD
ZARDSKY 305 PUNCHESTOWN
SHOWBOATING 340 THIRSK
KINGMAN 350 NEWMARKET
MERITOCRACY 425 NEWMARKET
ARCTIC FEELING 520 THIRSK
LIBERTY'S GIFT 635 PUNCHESTOWN (Charity race, so likely not all bookies will take bets)

The main event of the day is the 2000 Guineas, A Group 1 for 3 year old horses run over a mile on Newmarket's Rowley Mile. Run every year since 1809 it has had a prestigious cast list over the years. Hopefully this year will prove to be no different.
Let's take a look at the main protagonists.
AUSTRALIA - Aidan O'Brien's apparent number 1, he was beat on his racecourse debut which doesn't bode well as only 2 of the last 10 winners did also. Add to that he hasn't really beaten a lot and we are reliant of visual and timing aids to assess his ability which can be deceptive at the best of times. Obviously "the lads" have had their money down but I can't advise a bet at restrictive odds, he's 94 in places. Ladbrokes being top price about a Coolmore horse is far from a positive also.
ERTIJAAL - There's 40's available in places for him and that's a squeak of value in my opinion. This is a step up from what he's achieved, but so is it for Australia and he's a best 7/2. The only difference realistically is how they've got their work done. Ertijaal has gotten his done, albeit not as visually impressive. I can't put you off chucking in a pound for a place, he's fit, he's a listed winner and he deserves to be here.
KINGMAN - The favourite, and deservedly so. His Greenham win was very impressive. James Doyle is riding out of his skin. If you had backed him blind the last 2 weeksyou'd have attained 14 winners from 39 bets and made £40 for every £1 you laid out. He comes to the race unbeaten as were the last 4 winners. He's my pick, unimaginative I know, the market tends to get this race right. They certainly have the last 4 years. Victor and Paddy are currently sticking their necks out with 15/8.
KINGSTON HILL - This horse has been subject to some interesting moves on the exchanges over the past few months, most of them negative. Trainer has come out and said that today is a run, he's a Derby horse. He is to be respected though as he comes in having won the Racing Post Trophy and the Autumn Stakes, the latter on this course over today's mile. We know he'll finish well, 14/1 is an acceptable price to chance that he's fresh enough and won't get outpaced, in my opinion.
NIGHT OF THUNDER - Richard Hannon's second string, 2nd to Kingman in the Greenham having previously been unbeaten. That was his first start for 5 months so he's entitled to come on for the that. He could outrun his odds.
NOOZOH CANARIAS - "The Spanish Frankel", the hipster's horse of choice. I know very little about this horse. I've seen the Youtube videos sure, but I have no idea what he's beaten. We do know that he ran second to Karakontie in the Grand Criterium at the back end of last term, that horse ran a very close second in a Group 3 just a couple of weeks ago.
OUTSTRIP - Breeders Cup winner, but was well put away by another lining up today in the Dewhurst. He's pretty closely matched to Toormore on form, on that basis he's well overpriced at 25/1. You'd be taking a chance on his fitness having not run for 6 months.
TOORMORE - The Hannon first string, triple Group winner landing the Vintage at Goodwood, the National in Ireland and the Craven here at Newmarket. He's certainly a player, at a sensible price too. He's never looked hugely flashy but he does seem to know how to win. Owned by the Middleham Park syndicate it'd be a nice winner in a world of billionaire Sheikhs and the like.
WAR COMMAND - Disappointed in the Phoenix Stakes after winning the Coventry, but like the mythical creature bounced back to win the Futurity at Curragh and the Dewhurst here, beating Outstrip comfortably. He may be Aidan O'Brien's second string but let's face it, he has the better jockey of the 2. He'd be my Dark Horse/Saver behind Kingman, although punters have been latching on overnight and 7's is about the best you'll get right now.

My Verdict KINGMAN to beat WAR COMMAND.

Friday 2nd May

Good Morning, not the best day yesterday. In fact, getting 3 short favourites beat possibly qualifies it to be one of the worst. Let's hope for some bouncebackability today. I have 9 to put up, hopefully we can get a run from most of them today after the sorry efforts of those yesterday. Have a lucky day and I'll be back tomorrow with tips for 2000 Guineas day.

Tuesday 29th April

Morning all, a sorry day yesterday. It was Monday, I wasn't expecting the world in truth. So I've 6 bets today, and I'll have a quick look at some of the Punchestown races, because I'm nice like that.

KASHMIRI SUNSET 315 NOTTINGHAM
Bred to go as far as he wants. Done all best work late last twice. Step up in trip therefore a huge positive. Hard to gauge whether his opening handicap mark is too high, too low, just right, we'll find out later.

MEET ME HALFWAY 405 YARMOUTH
Done all her best running on the All Weather, but Yarmouth should be quick enough. Although saying that I'm about an hour away and it's not stopped raining all morning. I think she's the one to beat here.

WICKLOW BRAVE 420 PUNCHESTOWN
Do I think this horse beats Faugheen, don't be daft, however I think it represents each way value. He'll have to run to his best to nick 3rd as the first 2 look pretty much tied in. His last 2 efforts certainly weren't his best and he seemed to throw it in when beaten which probably isn't ideal on a place/each way bet.

SALIENT 430 LINGFIELD
Only Course and Distance winner in the field, won this race off 1lb higher last year. He's run well last twice so should be bang in there today.

BALLYCASEY 640 PUNCHESTOWN
I'm having to give this one another chance after his tumble a week or so ago. He looked to have the race sewn up on that occasion. Trip a worry and interesting that Ruby has jumped onto Djakadam.

KNIGHT CHARM 700 WOLVERHAMPTON
This was the outsider of the 4 early on and has been backed a little. Giving weight away to the younger horses but more experienced. Spatterings of decent form including a couple of placed efforts on the All Weather and this won't take a lot to win.

Good Luck

My picks for Punchestown
340 THE MULL
420 WICKLOW BRAVE (EW)
455 ROCKY WEDNESDAY
530 TWINLIGHT
640 BALLYCASEY

Monday 28th April

Morning all, a pretty good day yesterday with only one selection failing to make the frame and pig prices for those that were landed on the podium. So I'm sat here this morning clicking away, and my system throws up 17 horses! 17, on a Monday! Obviously it's summertime now in horsey world so the night racing extends to 6 meetings, so in essence it averages out at less than 3 a meeting, just. Obviously I'd have to be some form of algorythmic, and potentially cosmic, genius to develop a system which produces 17 winners in a day. I'd also have no need to turn up to work 5 days a week! So I've streamlined them and picked out 6 that look most likely to my naked eye. I'm going to chuck the others on here because I'd hate to miss one, but I'd suggest just going in gently. It's still early in the season.

Sunday 27th April

Morning People.

Ballincurrig ensured a smidgen of profit yesterday, although the failed Scoop 6 coup took me under personally. But the brightside is that nobody won it, so it's going to be even more monumental next week.
I've got 6 today, hopefully they'll run well and we'll secure enough returns to keep this little run of profit going.

Saturday 26th April

Morning all, how are we doing? So another profit yesterday, 15/2 winner, 8/1 and 14/1 places too. I struggled to find many to bet on today but I've done my best I have 5. And I'll pop up my Scoop 6 also, as it's a 4 million pound scoop it would be rude not to I guess.

Bets first

STIFF UPPER LIP 205 SANDOWN
BALLINCURRIG 500 SANDOWN
VALLARTA 520 LEICESTER
CASPIAN PRINCE 720 WOLVES
MYBOYALFIE 820 WOLVES

Scoop 6
205 S STEPHEN HERO / STIFF UPPER LIP
220 H FORT BASTION / DONTBOTHERME
250 R CAPTAIN RAMIUS / DOC HAY
325 H THE RECTIFIER / BRAE HILL
330 R MUBARAZA / ESTEAMING
350 S SAME DIFFERENCE / ROALCO DES FARGES
(note for those unfamiliar to tote betting, were you to walk into a betting shop and present that as your scoop 6 bet it would cost you £128, each straight bet costs £2 and multiplies for each extra horse you have per race, I'd suggest placing 4/5 straightlines mixing and matching a bit.)

Good Luck

WILDE PASTURES 230 PERTH
TRAVEL 255 DONCASTER
KEEP IT DARK 435 DONCASTER

Wednesday 23rd April

Morning all, sadly I couldn't find a bet yesterday but I have today. It's a cagey one in truth and certainly a stronger place claim than a win, but we'll see.

MERCERS ROW 200 CATTERICK
Not the most satisfying horse to follow down the years, but he has hit the frame on 34% of starts on turf. 365 and Victor will give you 14/1 on him so worth a play to make the frame I guess. A slight resurgence in form 2 starts ago with a win at Redcar, and there's a decent 2nd in his form under todays conditions. Like i said, it's not the most convincing bet but there's a little value there, you can get 3.15 for place only on Betfair if you want it, where the E/W will only offer up around 5/4 the place in present terms but you have the win chnce. Up to you, see how we go. Good Luck

Monday 21st April

Morning, so I've been beck for 2 days and picked 2 horses. The first was a big price 4th within a length of the winner, and yesterday my selection took and tumble with the race at his mercy! If I was a melodramatic teen I'd be throwing FMLs all over the show. It's a busy Bank Holiday today with lots of cards. You always have to remember though to take a step back and remember that is still a Monday and the quantity far exceeds the overall quality. I have 3 today.

CLARCAM 245 FAIRYHOUSE (NAP)
A solid enough campaign, travelling a dream in the Fred Winter at Cheltenham when falling 2 out after hitting the front, then at Aintree he was seemingly delivered perfectly only to be passed by Guitar Pete who finished like an express train. He sets the standard here, some 9lbs clear on official figures and I'd suggest if he were trained by Willie Mullins he'd be much shorter than the 5/2 put up by Coral and Bet365.

ROUGH COURTE 410 YARMOUTH
Still a maiden after 14 attempts, but certainly not for want of trying. He just keeps finding 1 or 2 too good. This is the weakest race he's taken heel in for a while and he sets the standard on known form. I'd worry about the Simcock newcomer most personally but this one is trading just over 7/2 on the machine right now so if the layers take a similar view that's a price to grab a chance of.

ADILI 245 REDCAR
This one is arguably a little more chancy than the other 2, he's been in good form since joining the Appleby yard, and the yard itself is going well early doors. That good form has been coming on the fibresand so it remains to be seen whether or not this good ground will suit. Mark is pretty useful to work off though considering the horse has previously run in the 70's. Only 365 have put up so far at 11/2, Betfair is around 15/2 so there could be an opportunity to pull your stake out later in the day and run as essentially a free bet.

Have a nice Easter Monday, best of luck if you follow mine or with whatever you back yourselves. See you tomorrow.

Sunday 20 April

Morning all, so near yet so far yesterday. A bold effort by the selection at the price. My selection today is a much shorter price but I'm trying to find a winner first and foremost.

BALLYCASEY 440 FAIRYHOUSE
A leading candidate for the RSA chase, he failed to see out the 3m+ trip and not for the first time, the only other time he has been beaten was also at 3m. Dropped back down to 2m4f today will suit, he's the best in this race officially by 4lb, had he gone for the Golden Miller instead of Felix Yonger, who knows? The other 3 in the field certainly have their credentials but I think this horse is a decent one. William Hill are sticking their necks out laying 6/4 so why not indulge them.

Good Luck

Saturday 19th April

Morning all, long time no see.
There are a few reasons I haven't blogged for a while, the first one being that my daughter decided to feed my laptop a drink of water so was without one for a short while. I then had a short sabatical away from betting, certainly on the horses, but I missed it. In the meantime I've been working solidly to get my paperwork and notebooks up to date and I think I'm nearly there. I've got one that sticks out, and one bookie that's seemingly gotten it wrong, we'll see.

CIRCUMVENT 330 KEMPTON 18/1 Coral

This horse has finished in the first 3 on 6 of 9 AW starts, including Group and Listed races. There's an argument that he could perhaps want further than a mile but at the odds I'm willing to punt that he'll be quick enough. He's only met another outsider previously and that was 2 years ago, he beat him nicely and that oursider has a small pull in the weights against a couple of more fancied runners. There's nothing overly consistent in here and nothing that jumps of the page as a superstar, most are running at there level today or above it, my selection is arguably running below. You look at Coral's 18/1 as somewhat of a gift really as if we go elsewhere Victor, Hills and Stan James have 14/1, Labrokes are a standout 10/1! almost half the price.

Good Luck
