Morning all, a small profit made yesterday, with 2 winners from the 5 selections, I'm currently working on a staking plan, from 2-5 points, with the possibility of the odd 10pt selection. If it works then it will become active on the blog from October. I'm a bit behind on my background work at the moment so I have to keep it as 1pt per horse for now. I expected a little more than we've gotten from this son of Sir Percy, please correct me if I'm wrong but I think this is his first run as a gelding (I don't have an actual racing post to hand, but I'm pretty sure the boys have to be altogether to run in the derby), if so the gelding operation can have a decent effect on a horse, we saw one yesterday rout away from a field in his first run since losing his jewels. This is quite a drop in class and we've to remember he placed in a Group 3, albeit at Lingfield. He gets 8lb off his elders in this race, he would be giving away weight all around were this a handicap.

Mark Johnston's horses bounce in and out of form like a bouncy thing *insert own cliche here, i can't think of a good one*, at the moment they are flying, This chap is 2/3 on quick ground, 2/5 at the distance, and 1/2 at this level, although the defeat came in a 3yo only event. He has a bit to make up with Saigon but I'm not sure that horse is entirely genuine, although it could make for interesting dinner table chat in the Fallon house were those two to fight out a finish here.

Um, where do I begin? These Al Maktoum horses just seem to take longer to reach their level. Form of her 3rd at Sandown 2 starts ago has worked out ok, jockey is a big worry for me, the horse is going to have to do this by herself, the big selling point however is the application of the hood. Now the hood appears to have magical powers apparently on horses. If they made a table of success stories using the hood then i'd lay money down that Roger Varian would be near the top of that table, as long as doesn't drop to much in price, i'd say 13/8 - 7/4 maybe the limit then this filly is a bet.

So do we wait another 40odd years for another triple crown attempt? Poor Camelot, gave first run to a decent horse and couldn't make up the ground. We saw a new potential superstar later in the evening though. Dawn Approach, the much heralded son of New Approach, put away an interesting field in his first start in the Godolphin blue. He looks like he'll be a good 'un next year. Right onto today. The racing is well and truly back to tosh! I'm going for Ron Harris at Ffos Las, he rarely leaves without a winner!

We got lucky yesterday, I say we, I got lucky. I tweaked my system a little and it didn't work, fortunately Purley Queen drifted to 25/1 and saved my blushes. The 230 Sandown looks potentially to be a very hot maiden, I have 6 to follow from that race, also I backed 2 from Charles Hills yard at Donny and noticed that Micheal isn't there (obv 1 is ridden by Hanagan due to contractual reasons) so found he is riding just one horse today at Sandown - Basseterre 305, which has been subject to solid support overnight.
Hopefully we can find a few more winners today, I have my lucky boxers on.

Right I fancy a Baltimore win here but they are very short, i considered I would like a spread of below 7, the spread is 7, i thought perhaps less than 40 points worth taking on, the points line is 40. Damn you bookies. But the Ravens are my superbowl tip so I'll just sit and watch in hope!!!

SAN DIEGO @ OAKLAND
I like San Diego to do well, this division should be between them and Denver, although last nights performance from the Broncos suggested that Peyton wants to take his team deep. The Chargers could have a stumble here at the first hurdle, the Raiders won't do a lot but do have the ability to beat teams if they want to. With the spread set at -1 it's hardly worth playing the money line. The Points look about right.

WASHINGTON @ NEW ORLEANS
A huge ruling overturning the bans on the Saints 'bounty' players will have given them a massive boost. Washington are expected to start with rookie quarterback Robert Griffin III and have strengthened their front row, they will struggle here though against arguably the most intelligent QB in the league. The Spread and Points line look a bit too high/fair for me to get involved on week 1, but I'll take an interest play in M. Colston 1st and Anytime TD available at 8/1 and EVS respectively.

INDIANAPOLIS @ CHICAGO
I like Chicago to go a long way this year, Indianapolis not so much. But they look likely to start number 1 draft pick Andrew Luck, and a rebuilding process looks very much on the cards. The Bears will look to dominate this with their running game and that said the prices of M. Forte 7/1-5/6 and M. Bush 11/1 - 5/4 for 1st-AT TD look pretty fair.

ATLANTA @ KANSAS
The Falcons are another side who I feel can come on and make an impression this year. They've bought in a new offense coach who could improve their passing game. I think they can get off to a solid start this year. I'm taking Atlanta on the money line, over 43.5 points in the game, and J. Jones 1st/AT TD

PHILADELPHIA @ CLEVELAND
Cleveland need to strengthen just to not be the whipping boys. But the Eagles are hugely inconsistent thanks in no part to the dream team tag labeled upon them. I have no real interest in this game, although the points line at 43 looks worth a tickle.

ST LOUIS @ DETROIT
Detroit should walk over this match, St Louis have been poor for a while and nothing seems likely to change this year. I'll take Detroit on the spread.

NEW ENGLAND @ TENNESSEE
New England often get involved in high scoring games, mostly because their offence is brilliant their defence shocking. I'm betting New England on the spread, Points over 47. Brady has so many weapons for TD the bookies look to have it well and truly covered.

JACKSONVILLE @ MINNESOTA
2 underachieving franchises really in my opinion. I can't get involved on the game lines. Although Jacksonville do appear to be surpassing Minnesota. Even that Adrian Peterson at EVS to score a TD looks pretty big.

BUFFALO @ NEW YORK JETS
Buffalo could shock their division this year, but they have to get the results against their division rivals, which was their let down last season. I'm taking Buffalo on the money line here against a Jets franchise that made a statement of intent when they bought in the circus act that is Tim Tebow.

MIAMI @ HOUSTON
If this is anything but a Houston win I'll eat my pants. Houston have possibly the strongest run offence in the league and will be time and again pummeling the ball straight at Miami. With all the money going for Arian Foster, Ben Tate AT at 7/5 looks decent value.

SEATTLE @ ARIZONA
Seattle finished last season very strong, but again seem to have a tougher first half than second. I'm backing them on the money line to get off to a good start here at their rivals. Also I'm betting Braylon Edwards to score.

SAN FRANCISCO @ GREEN BAY
Green Bay nearly got a perfect record last year, San Francisco managed 13 wins themselves. The 49'ers however are far from the most exciting side to watch. They will keep it tight and with that should take the spread with a 5pt start.

CAROLINA @ TAMPA BAY
Well the whole world wants to know, what will Cam Newton do in his second season. The guy was an enigma last year, and if he comes on for that he could be anything. I think Carolina have been gifted a nice start here and I take them to cover the spread, also unless they've dramatically improved defensively I can see the losing side nicking points and the Over 47 is worth a play. My final play in this game is Greg Olsen for 1st/AT TD at 14/1 - 21/10

PITTSBURGH @ DENVER
If you sit up and watch this later on Channel 4, I know i shalln't, you'll be forgiven for not realising there are many other players involved in this. I full on predict an overhype on Peyton Manning. It's a tough game to call this so i won't bother. I'll just have a go at Denver WR Eric Decker to score at Anytime at 11/10

F1 - ITALIAN GP

My Early bets for the weekend as follows.
Race Winner : Fernando Alonso, lost valuable points through no fault of his own last week and his team will be sure to have all the stops out for this race.
Podium Finish : Hamilton and Button, McLaren seem to have got a competitive car now, and have realistic aspirations of the constructors title.
Points Finish : Di Resta and Hulkenberg, the Force Indias both did very well at Spa and could well follow up quickly at a similar track.
Pole Position : Hamilton, Lotus have proven to be more hot air than substance, as were Mercedes earlier in the season, Ferrari have been weak in qualifying and the Red Bulls may struggle for speed here just like they did in Spa.

The season opens tonight with the defending champions, the New York Giants, entertaining the Dallas Cowboys. This is a big game in a very tight division. 2 years ago this would have been tighter in my opinion but the Giants have steadily pulled away. I'll go for the Giants to cover the 3.5 point spread. The points line is 45, in 2010 this fixture provided 71 points, 2009 53, the contrasting forward styles and both franchises in the bottom half of the league defensively should lead to that being possible so I'm going over. And you can get odds against on Hakeem Nicks scoring a touchdown. So to follow my advice.

Just the one bet in the football today, and sorry Liverpool fans but it's on Arsenal. They are a big price today. This is the sort of game they excel in. Liverpool will feel confident about the game but unless they come up with a gameplan beyond "get the ball to Suarez" it's going to be a long hard season. It will be a tight game for sure, neither side will really want to lose and Liverpools best asset will be Joe Allen in the midfield breaking up Arsenal's play and controlling the tempo for his own team. But at the prices Arsenal are value, there is nothing between these sides, some may argue the londoners stronger but that's not really the case, and for the visitors to trade at 3/1 in places is daft. It'll be a bet I have absolutely no concerns over losing but I have bet on the Arsenal win.
