Friday 21st September -

Morning all, a small profit made yesterday, with 2 winners from the 5 selections, I'm currently working on a staking plan, from 2-5 points, with the possibility of the odd 10pt selection. If it works then it will become active on the blog from October. I'm a bit behind on my background work at the moment so I have to keep it as 1pt per horse for now. Only 3 in newbie corner today, and 6 bets. I'm not sure if there will be a blog tomorrow as it's the boy's birthday. My football bets will be up on twitter at some point today. So lets have a look at today's bets.

AYR

250 RIO'S PEARL (NAP)
Best Price 5/1 BetVictor
All her maiden form has worked out pretty well, and looks like fair form, 2 starts ago she competed in a hot nursery that was split across the track, she came in 4l behind the winner (The Gold Cheongsam) but 2l clear of her closest rival on her side of the track. Her Sireage suggests that cut in the ground shouldn't hamper her chances, and she's partnered by the best jockey in the race.

510 JOSHUA THE FIRST
Best Price 15/2 Paddy Power
Very consistent at this level and won here, delivered on the line, little more than a week ago. Trainer, Keith Dalgleish, is in decent form at present and his horses seem to like it here, with Fanning on board too they should get a tune out of him under a penalty. Win or lose he will be racing in better company than this nto.

NEWBURY

230 CAVALEIRO (NB)
Best Price 7/1 BetVictor, Skybet, William Hill
I expected a little more than we've gotten from this son of Sir Percy, please correct me if I'm wrong but I think this is his first run as a gelding (I don't have an actual racing post to hand, but I'm pretty sure the boys have to be altogether to run in the derby), if so the gelding operation can have a decent effect on a horse, we saw one yesterday rout away from a field in his first run since losing his jewels. This is quite a drop in class and we've to remember he placed in a Group 3, albeit at Lingfield. He gets 8lb off his elders in this race, he would be giving away weight all around were this a handicap.

450 VAN ELLIS
Best Price 5/1 BetVictor, Stan James
Mark Johnston's horses bounce in and out of form like a bouncy thing *insert own cliche here, i can't think of a good one*, at the moment they are flying, This chap is 2/3 on quick ground, 2/5 at the distance, and 1/2 at this level, although the defeat came in a 3yo only event. He has a bit to make up with Saigon but I'm not sure that horse is entirely genuine, although it could make for interesting dinner table chat in the Fallon house were those two to fight out a finish here.

WOLVERHAMPTON

800 CHARLCOT
Best Price 10/1 Coral, William Hill
Returns after a four month break after underperforming on handicap debut, he drops a pound and a grade for this, jockey bookings suggest that connections think a bit of this horse, Fallon, De Sousa and now Barzalona. Mickael is riding with renewed confidence after lowering the colours of Camelot. He's seen some support with Ladbrokes this morning.

830 AFRAAH
Best Price 2/1 4+ bookmakers
Um, where do I begin? These Al Maktoum horses just seem to take longer to reach their level. Form of her 3rd at Sandown 2 starts ago has worked out ok, jockey is a big worry for me, the horse is going to have to do this by herself, the big selling point however is the application of the hood. Now the hood appears to have magical powers apparently on horses. If they made a table of success stories using the hood then i'd lay money down that Roger Varian would be near the top of that table, as long as doesn't drop to much in price, i'd say 13/8 - 7/4 maybe the limit then this filly is a bet.

NEWBIE CORNER

Just 3 here today

ANNINA 240 LINGFIELD
bay filly Singspiel x Lysandra
I can't see her winning today, she may want further. She is first foal of a Danehill mare and Singspiel has had some success in that line.

CORRESPONDENT 125 NEWBURY
chestnut colt Exceed and Excel x Indian Love Bird
Nice pedigree, half brother to multiple group winning Delegator. Holds an entry for the Dewhurst.

CARRY ON CLAPPING 125 NEWBURY
bay filly Acclamation x Embassy Belle
second string for yard on todays engagement, no black type in immediate lines but last years Solario Stakes winner Talwar is by Acclamation out of a Marju mare, that is the basis for following this little lady for a few starts, we'll soon learn if she is any good or not.

Hopefully you enjoyed my little musings, have a great day,
Good Luck and Happy Punting
