Tuesday 14th June - Royal Ascot Day 1 - Happy Frankel Day

I think it's quite obvious who everyones NAP has to be today, given that a NAP is the one bet of the day that you fell cannot lose, and there is no way Frankel can lose! Well technically there is one way and that is largely to the muppet sat on board, I make no apologies for my distain for Tom Queally, the lad has lost me a tremendous amount of money for poor rides and I feel has got pretty lucky with the rides he has been given. Although where credits due he did ride a pretty convincing double last night. It was unfortunate not to see Sweet Secret put up a bold show last night but as I suggested yesterday there was always a chance the horse would need the run. I do feel the concept is a tremendous one, however. In a time where horse racing is eating itself alive through a)lack of interest, b)poor prize money and c)bookies all jumping ship abroad to avoid the levy hikes, a group of racing enthusiasts have gotten together and created syndicates through social media networks at a very limited cost. Unless there is a real live springer found they stand little to no chance of recouping the money outlaid but as far as I can see they don't need to. The syndicate is joined for the love of the game and the thrill of being a part of the game that they love. If we get one winner from this idea in the near future it could be the concept that racing has been screaming for, to get the common man interested in racing again. Fred Done believes he is the saviour of horse racing but these guys beat him hands down. I'm unsure who invented the concept of the social media syndicates but the man(or men or women?) is a genius and was overlooked in the Queens honours list.

Right Ascot, well I've been up and having a little look. May dive into another coffee in a minute but I'll try and find us some winners.

230 It's a shame really that there is only 2 horses involved here, as over half the field are 5 or above there is a massive amount of form to pick through and it serves to remove 5 of the runners. Flash Dance has been thrown in as a pacemaker for Goldikova so won't have a chance to win, Ransom note was thoroughly convincing when landing a group 3 in april but was found needing a lot when 8th to Goldikova last time out. As I stated when I looked at the Diomed Stakes at Epsom all of Rio De La Platas top form has been abroad and again should be overlooked today. Cityscape has not won above group 3, although a few close seconds in group 2 company but this step up should find him wanting. Cape Blanco is the pick of the also rans although all his group 1 wins have been in Ireland, although did beat Workforce in the Dante last year. A strong pace would suit, not too quick but strong, altough chance he could find the trip a bit sharp. Onto the big battle Goldikova v Canford Cliffs. Both horses share the same most recent conqueror, Makfi, Goldi by 2 and half, Canford by 1 and 3qtr. Another thing we can look at was the male/female battle between St Nich Abbey and Midday which the colt came out on top albeit Tom Queally sent the mare on far too early. My prediction for today is that Richard Hughes will finally get to see Goldikova's face after staring at her rump so many times, boys to beat girls. CANFORD CLIFFS to win.

305 Sole Power beat Kingsgaite Native in the Temple Stakes and everything suggests those 2 should be involved today. War Artist makes appeal after a decent effort in Dubai, Prohibit is in pretty good nick at the moment and progressing, could be a big player today. American Horses come here with a big chance due to the explosive speed they possess, Bridgetown is the pick but I'm going to throw my hand in each way with Holiday for Kitten. But my selection is going to be TANGERINE TREES, a very game front runner when winning at Newmarket on Guineas day, unfortuneatly got sucked into the Overdose furuor last time at Haydock and tried to do too much at the start. Big price today and capable of winning this.

345 FRANKEL is going to win! I'm not even going to waste anyones time, I quite like a little each way play on Grand Prix boss, a decent group 1 win in Japan last time out and connections have stated that he's in the form of his life.

425 There is a hideous amount of form to pick apart here, the majority of the contestants have been impressive enough in their wins to be given a chance here today. For each way plays I like Gatepost, the progressive Brockelbank, Fulbright who won very nicely at epsom, or Gabrial for Fahey/Hanaghan but I'm going to side with Irish raider POWER. 2 very convincing wins at the Curragh with the more convincing coming over this trip on debut hitting the front 2f out and going away. Suggestions are that he will look for further in time and I've had a little punt at 25/1 for this in next years 2000 guineas so I hope he wins this going away today to give me massive value.

500 Junior won this race last year and has been going very well over fences during the winter so has to come in for respect, Zigato looks like the trip won't be an issue and worth a play with the everwell William Buick on board. Veiled and Ashbrittle need to come on a bit and could be tough under these conditions, my selection is going to be for Jeremy Noseda's PLYMOUTH ROCK. Was staying on well into 3rd in last years Cesarewich and I think we can ignore the Frankel inspired performance by Overturn in the Chester Cup which made for a false race for everything in behind. I think this is a decent price today and every indication the trip will suit. Frankie knows what he's doing and is a positive booking.

535 The problem I have with this race is that pretty much all of these need to improve to win this, I'm going to side with the US raider GENTLEMANS CODE. I wouldn't comfortably write anything off here but the US horses do turn foot very well over the sprint trips and this one has been seen in England, impressively landing a maiden at Folkestone, the effort made to send the horse and jockey over to England speaks volumes of chances and definately worth a go today.

I'm also backing She's a Character in the 440 Thirsk and Bermuda Boy in the 745 Newton Abbott if anyone cares.

Have a great day, I'm working today but will be sat comfortably watching the rest of Royal Ascot from my sofa!!! Happy days. Oh by the way we lost £5.63 to the £ yesterday leaving a pot of £8.57 to the £.
Happy punting and Good luck.
